Hi all, I have a 2018 Expedition Max and fixed a few water leaks since I purchased it (sunroof drains and leaks behind the hatch moldings). I never had any water or wet carpet issues on the passenger front side but did see a lot of talk especially from the F150 owners about TSB 19-2345 and wet carpets when researching about the leaks I did have.
After doing this TSB myself, I’d like to post a few pictures since it’s easy to do and good insurance. Here’s a few pictures of the installation. This vehicle is a 1/2018 build and the TSB says for 8/2018 and later but found it easily fit the repair and same problems were potentially there. I found the elbow for about $12 shipped on E-bay and did it while rotating my tires since it’s best to do with the front right tire off the car. The entire wheel well doesn’t have to be removed and only the back lower area. The new elbow slides right on and snug enough that it will easily stay in place with the tape Ford recommends to direct the water away from the firewall seal. Hope this can help save some Expedition owners some headaches!

Thanks for posting, it looks like the fix is to extend the drain away from the insulation? Does this design go back to to third gen's? Thank you for posting.

I'm not sure if this exact elbow goes back to the third gens but heard of many people having the same problem way back to 2004 and able to use it. Maybe pick up a grommet and see if it will fit but I think it should work. My 2018 is a 1/2018 build which is well before the TSB of 8/2018 and later vehicles and it worked. Its basically not letting the water drip back on the straight out nipple that's there now. The straight as equipped design nipple lets the water drip right onto its seal area. Problem is the seal isn't made of nice tight rubber on these cars. Its some sort of rubber / fabric type compound and when the water runs back on the nipple to that seal, it sometimes leaks into the car so the elbow directs it away. Another thing that works well if the elbow doesn't fit is to use butyle or windshield urethane on the seal and then no need for the elbow. Hope that helps!

Id recommend anyone to do this upgrade since it’s cheap and easy insurance and can avoid a lot of headaches down the road if the leak should begin.
Thanks for posting! I think I will go ahead and do this. I think the foil tape’s primary purpose is to protect the rubber hose from heat since the turbo is nearby.
