I will be removing the timing cover on my 2015 to fix an oil leak.

What other work should be completed since the cover is off anyway?

I believe it would include the timing chain, phasers, water pump and oil pump. Is this correct or am I missing anything?

I'm not having any issues currently other then the oil leak.

Does it make sense to just get a new reman from Ford Parts?

This information is just so that I know what to ask the mechanic and to validate they are doing this properly

If Melling offers an High volume oil pump for the 3.5 1st gen, then I would swap that in there as well.
Do the timing system.
Do the front cover crank seal as well

How many miles?

Well, I would just keep the cover, and replace the rest of the engine, as well as the radiator, transmission & front suspension too, since you'll be "in there" anyways, hahahaha :)

Just kidding of course, but at 10 years & counting, I would go with Workstation's above recommendations if it were me....

155K, The dealership gave me a quote of $3200-$3500 for just fixing the timing chain cover oil leak. Hopefully I could get a better price at an independent. How much less expensive is the so called "$6000 tuneup" (this will most likely be >$6) compared to getting a reman engine from Ford when I include everything that should be done since the engine is open

Who shall now be forever known as the "stealership", hahahaha !

That's about 5-6x more than it should be...yea I know that parts (& labor rates) have went up, but seriously !

I'm soooo glad I have a good relationship with my local ford place to do any serious repairs at reasonable rates (I've bought 6 vehicles from them over the years), even though I have a small mom & pop shop that takes care of any routine/maintenance stuff like brakes, hoses, belts, tires etc :D

I did the job last year on my 2010 Explorer V8 with 140,000 miles. I only changed the chains, chain guides, tensioners, sprockets and phasers and phaser actuators. I didn't do the oil pump.

Also figure on timing chain cover and valve cover gaskets (seals) and front cover crank seal, crank bolt and phaser bolts. If you need plugs, do them too.

I would not think of using any timing products other than OEM Motorcraft. If you do, you'll be doing the job again. "You have been warned." The parts cost me about $1200.

The dealers here sell you an engine instead. If you insist on the timing job they get around $2,000 for parts, $3400 for labor.

Independent shop should give you a better price, but insist the shop that they use Ford OEM parts.
It's not worth the risk w/ aftermarket parts when it comes to the powertrain.

It's up to you about the reman....does the reman come with new turbos as well?
I've heard they don't, but some do. Depends on who sells it.

I'm not sure what they include with the reman. I'm thinking I would get one from Ford, and not from one of the third party suppliers. I'll try to find out what's included.

I did the whole job in my driveway two times (high volume oil pump installed along with the timing chains and all solenoids etc.).,...Still had missing problems.
The third time (one pop bolts and gaskets all three times) I changed the valve springs and seals.
Problem solved

Roller followers and hydraulic lifters too while you’re in there?

I did my family’s 2006 5.4 3V several years ago, new roller followers were a good thing on that engine. Less familiar with 3.5.

Do check out FordTechMakuloco’s YouTube channel, gold mine of info & how-tos.
