What is the auto lamp feature on 97 expedition

I just got my truck a couple of weeks ago and still tryna figure out some of the controls. Do anyone know what the Auto Lamp feature is, Do the light auto turn on when i unlock the doors ? i really don’t get it. Thanks Anything will help

Look up an owners' manual for the truck on Google. Autolamp turns on the headlights when it gets dark. The dial adjusts the light threshold that turns them on, I think.

I thought on the older cars, the auto lamp just kept the lights on the car turned on for a certain time, after you locked the car, the dial adjusted how long the lights stayed on. It was to allow you to see what was around you ar night after you parked the car. As stated the owners manual will explain it. In later models, the auto lamp turned on the headlights when it started to get dark outside or if the windscreen wipers are turned on.
