Sometimes the manuals can save you money in other ways. For instance, I once owned a 1987 Porsche 951. The clutch started slipping. I've replaced a couple of clutches before, so "no problem".

Got the manual, turned to the chapter on clutch replacement and was met with this warning, before Step 1: Warning: This is a complex procedure and should not be attempted unless you have the proper tools and training blah blah blah.

Yeah, right. On to Step 1.

1. Remove rear suspension.

????WHAT????

Ended up costing me ~$2500 at a dealer.
