Last Saturday was driving home stopped to get kids something to eat. Put vehicle back in drive it stalls.Cranks right back up but as soon as it hits drive it stalls. Got ride home, had vehicle towed to shop. Guys says its the key its bad bc it has a little microchip in it has gone bad and he replaces it. Pick up this past Friday no problems at all until today. Wife leaves to go get daughter from school puts it in drive stalls. So I go down, manage to get it in first gear and once I get going I shift it to 2nd and then drive its fine. Take it to Ford Dealership he says its the torque converter going bad be 800-1000$ to fix. I can still drive it by starting out in 1st and then shifting to 2nd and then drive but as soon as I take my foot off the gas in drive it stalls. Cranks right back up but stalls once I stop pushing the gas...what's wrong!? I also know the o2 sensors are going bad...is that it?

Also want to add wife just drove to work and it never stalled. She called me when she got there...this is frustrating because its being unreliable as hell right now...

The torque converter has an internal clutch. It may be sticking. It would feel like releasing the clutch on a manual trans while keeping your foot on the brake.

Sometimes you'll get DTC codes in the ECM or the shift handle might start flashing. It should all be in your freeze frame data.

You can try using some of the Trans X snake oil. It's nothing more than a solvent that helps free sticking internals & swells seals internally.

You can also try testing the shift pack solenoids. Not a likely cause but possible. If you need ill post up the Continuity an ohms test.

i would also verify that the sensors aren't throwing what I call "useable false data" where the voltage falls within tolerance for the ecu to think it's real data and some other condition coupled with that is causing it to stall.

does it stall when you stop with the gear in "1" or "2"? when you put it in "2" the trans will stay in 2nd when stopped. it's for icy conditions to prevent wheel spin, if it is the converter the same symptom will persist in "R" "D" "2" and "1"

I would start by replacing the faulty sensors then going from there. if you know they are bad and you're stalling it's the best place to start.
