Silver, doing a tune up isn't hard (per se), but do not plan on getting it done in an hour either. A tune up on modern day cars involves a plug change out, cleaning the throttle body, cleaning the MAF, putting in a new PCV valve and then a good go through of hoses and belts (replacing what needs to be replaced). You may want to even toss in a tranny fluid change since you are doing the other stuff.

Everything but the plugs is pretty easy and straight forward. The plugs. If this is your first plug change out, plan on spending about 3 hours on this job. I'm sure other members will chime in, but they will say about the same thing. The front 4 plugs (2 on each side) are very easy, probably take you 20 minutes to do those 4. It will take you the rest of the time to do the back 4 due to the limited distances and all of the other stuff that is in the way. Some people have been able to remove the coils without having to lift the fuel rail, but I do not see how atleast on my truck. I also recommend you have three 3" extensions. No, you can not use a 6" extension. The 6" extension is too long and you will be cussin up a storm to make it work. TRUST ME!!!!!!.

As for the exhaust system that you are looking at. Can you do it. SURE!!!!!! But, you also need to know your local laws and whether they have annual safety inspections or not. Being in the military and having to endure many safety inspections, almost ever state requires a muffler on the vehicle at the time of the inspection. The other thing that I will tell you is to switch over to a true dual exhaust and not run a muffler, you are going to significantly drop your back pressure. This is going to be great for those 4,000+ RPM power pulls. But, honestly, how often are you up that high in the RPM compared to down at 1500-2000 for in town driving? The lowered back pressure is going to kill your torque, which is what gets the truck moving off the line. So, what you will more than likely see is very little to any gain in your highway mileage, better high RPM power, but your in town mileage is going to drop into single digits, if not the mid-single digits.

By no means am I saying you shouldn't or you can't. But, understand what you are going to get out of that modification.
