Wipers

Since this is a resurrected thread from a year ago, I still have the same wipers on for over a year - Bosch Icons. They are still working great. So, they have seen one winter (although Kentucky doesn’t have severe winters) and am going into the next without the need to change.

Note that I do not rely on the wipers to get bug gunk off. I clean the windshield regularly when there’s bugs, and use RainX (both applied and in the washer fluid).

Had a 22" Michelin Performance XT so I tossed it on the driver's side of my 2013 and the bend in the beam was too severe and always left a section of untouched windshield behind right in my line of vision, maybe these would be good after a few weeks of summer temps but I can't recommend them in cold temps. Switched to passenger side and even worse, may try some others like the Motorcraft, if the Icons are that expensive and don't hold up in freezing conditions then they're no good to me.

We've had Bosch Icons on all of our vehicles for quite a few years and they've performed and held up well. They are pricey though. Price history shows the lowest the 22A has been on Amazon this year was $21.89 in January.

Since this trended up, thought I would add that I had very good experience with Rain X ceramic cleaner. It lasted for several months. The one downside is that you do get a light streak at the point where the blades switch directions, because they scour the material from the glass over time. But the wax was durable and helped sheet water off the glass. I suggest lightly polishing the glass before application to get good adherence.

I haven't looked in the manual on this yet, but previous vehicles I've owned that had rain-sensing wipers recommend not using the waxing solutions as the system depends on the rain acting certain ways on the glass. I used to use rain-x on every vehicle until I read that.

I haven't noticed any issues with the rain sensing wipers, but I'll check next time it rains. Generally, at low speeds the behavior isn't much different. But when you get moving and you need to run the wipers, the rain just rolls up and off the windshield, so the wipers are doing less work.

I’ve turned off the rain sensing for the wipers. Since rainx tends to clear the windshield at a moderate speed, there’s no need for wipers, and I can guess that the sensing mechanism gets confused. It’s pretty easy to turn the wipers on or give it a quick wipe with the button, though.
