X-Plan vs Negotiate

I just was given an X-Plan code this morning, I have no experience with Fords X-plan. It appears if you use this it becomes a no negotiation deal. Anyone who has been able to negotiate a better deal than X-plan can retrieve? In this market I am half thinking of using trying to negotiate first then dropping the X-plan card if they refuse to come down.

Unless you are a relative, or work as a direct Ford employee, you will not get a better deal than "X" plan

When I ordered our Expedition (in 2018, Pre-Covid, Pre-Shortages) I was able to ink a deal at Dealer Invoice less incentives at the time of delivery, less half the dealer's holdback. In not doing an X-Plan deal, I was charged the dealer's inflated documentary fees and not the lesser amount specified in the X-Plan terms. I probably saved maybe $200 over X-Plan. FYI, our family had purchased ten new vehicles for this dealer in the past and we had bought from this salesman before, so it was almost as effortless as using X-Plan would have been.

In today's market and depending on your wants/needs, you may not find what you want on a lot somewhere. Even if you do, it will more than likely be packed with overpriced dealer ad-ons like window tint, paint sealant, and more that you could have done better and more affordably on your own, so your best bet will be to place an order and wait seemingly forever. As I said in another post, know the Order Guide inside and out as there are often packages that give you more for less $ than ordering your options a la carte. if you are up for it, Internet shopping and ordering will give you the advantage of staying out of the dealership and negotiating on your turf--pitting one dealer's Internet sales person against another because you're pricing identical vehicles and that might allow you to beat X-Plan. Just remember that there will be doc. fees added on, and dealers price them way high, so verify that the price quoted is out-the-door with nothing you didn't ask for. Good luck

Typically I’ve sat in on deals with a commercial sales manager who gives invoice in the past. I recall when my dad bought his last Super Duty the commercial guy said he would extend me the same deal (but this was pre covid so I have my doubts at this point). I generated the pin regardless as it’s good for a year if I don’t use it no harm no foul. Was just curious if anyone ever beat the pin at a volume dealer or something.

I have access to X-Plans and depending upon the market conditions, general availability and individual dealer you may or may not be able to do better. The nice thing about an X-Plan is you do not need to "play the negotiating game" which to me is always painful to get the best price.

With my 2011 and 2014 Expedition purchases, I used X-plans, but with the 2017, I did better without it.

FYI-1 the X and A Plan (Ford employee / immediate family) pricing is printed at the bottom of the dealer invoice.
FYI-2, when you use an X-Plan, you are giving up certain consumer rights. As said above, read all the documents CAREFULLY!

I have the x plan and later in the year as the new models come in, you can get a better price than X plan.

As I've posted previously, "X" Plan is 2% over true dealer cost, Ford kicks back 6% to the dealer after delivery for taking the plan order/sale. On top of this, Ford limits the "fees" associated with the sale. Dealer incentives provided to you in the form of 1 year, or more service contracts are not included, same goes for extended warranties. Those are between you and the dealer. Any Ford buyer incentives ($1,000 and up) can be used and deducted from the X plan price. Buyers protections are for the day the order is placed, or the sales contract is written. I have yet to hear of a dealer willing to sell a desirable vehicle such as the Expedition for under the 2% true dealer cost (not dealer invoice, which is a ploy most dealers use to flash at customers to show what a great deal they are getting).

It looks like it depends on the vehicle. For the Expedition all the dealers are asking MSRP, but several dealers are advertising new F-150s at steep discounts all ready.

Are x plans still available for stock holders. I have heard that ford ended them this year.

Yes, mid year last year. If you didn’t request a number by mid summer you couldn’t get a number and the plan for shareholders was done.

Yeah, Ford stockholders could always get X-Plans. I think it was a minimum of 100 shares held for at least 6 months. They rescinded that benefit mid-late last year. Nice huh?

Those that held at least 100 shares of Ford stock for six months were eligible to receive a Ford X-Plan PIN. However, as of June 1st, 2022, that will no longer be the case as the Ford shareholder vehicle discount program is now set to end.

Just for educational purposes here, I did end up using the x-plan pin. You can stack discounts on top of your X-plan as well. I went in February and bought an F-150, also stacked on Fords recent college grad discount (another $800 off) on top of my X-plan pin. You have to send Ford an e-copy of your diploma (must be within 2 years of graduating date). All in all got like $3,000 off sticker on my F-150.

There are a few other rebates available one is a farming discount. You can also stack regular incentives and cash offers too. Go online, print out all your discounts and walk right in - know your final OTD and payment before you even sit down. Mine was no negotiation, I walked in and told the salesman the price I was paying and gave him the VIN of the truck I picked out the night before on their website. Went for a test drive, got on the 5.0L V8 once merging to listen to her sing and it was a deal. Easy peasy :)
