I have some refining to do, as you can clearly see from the excess of material, but I have a start to making the shifter look a little nicer than the factory plastic box that sits there.
I made some measurements and some uneducated guesses for the material, which proved a little bit off on the guesses, and this is what I came up with. I have a ton of leather left to work with, and it only cost $7 for a square yard or so.

There are some companies out there that will make a leather boot for the shifter. I do like the way that looks.

Was the center part of your shifter black or did you paint it?

I had the leather lying around, so I decided to run with it. I already cut and stitched a new one with about half the material, I’ll be trying it tomorrow. Due to a lack of attaching methods, I ended up using self-drilling screws to attach it.

My shifter came black. It’s only an XLT, so no fancy chrome for me.

Did you wrap it around the plate that was there or screw it in from the bottom?

I hate the chrome. If the sun hits it at the right angle it shines right in my eyes.

I’ll have to take better pics tomorrow, but the part of the shifter that has the gear indicators on it (P,R,N,D) is what I screwed it to. I left about an inch of material below the top of it. I wanted to attach it to the shifter surround, but there was no way to keep it from pulling up through the hole. So I settled since you can’t see it anyway.

My wife has the chrome in her Plat, and I also find it annoying for that same reason.

What I attached the boot to.67B6AD19-5C91-4C98-BD8F-B48295582D89.jpeg 39BE9292-87B2-495C-8E4F-566951CC8D6F.jpeg 4FA95024-64F5-4B09-87D8-297232A8BA6D.jpeg
Revised product. I did discover that you want to use something other than the 1/4” screws I used. The heads are large and the console top won’t fit over them. I moved the one in the back down, and just whacked some of the plastic off to make it fit.
Given that, I’m still happy. A small, easy change with a big impact since the redundant gear indicator is gone.

Yep, typically that’s what it is. You pop the plug out and insert the key or a screwdriver or something and it will allow you to shift from park with no power.
