Good Winter Tires

1998 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer Edition 4X4

Looking for a set of good winter tires.

Mostly city/suburban driving in the North East (New York).

Suggestions?

Living in Ohio, we get dumped on pretty good. The Nokian Vatiivas's are a great ice and snow tire, I loved mine, but since they were on my Explorer they wouldn't fit on my Expedition. So now my mom has them on her Jimmy, and I have Bridgestone Dueler Revo's. The bridge stone don't handle quite as well as the Nokian's did in the snow, but they're an A/T. I'd look into both.

I got them at Sams Club for a good price and 'call-out' (they come to you) accidental damage coverage thrown in. I think it was about $800 and change for the whole deal.

We had over 6ft of snow last winter and these bad boys got me everywhere without fail. Even pulled a couple of guys out of ditches in the area, no sweat.

i like the nokian tyre the vativa is a great all around tire i use to sell them for tire factory... if your looking for more of a true winter tire look at nokian hakkapalitta awesome snow tire and comes is various traction level and if you go studded they have a pattend stud design that the studs dont fly out at higher speeds

The Uniroyal Laredo Cross Country has a quiet tread design, but is snowflake rated. We've seen some go 80k+ miles too.

I think the vatiivas are what replaced the hakapalita's. I went to get another set of them and I'm almost positive they quit making them. BUT, i wouldn't bet money on it.

the vativa replaced the haka Q but the haka 3 and the haka suv is still availible per my local tire factory store

Try a set of Hankook Ipike's - you can stud them also... I've had GREAT luck with Hankook's Koren made, but I've had great luck with them

Have you thought about Pirelli's? I have the scorpion STR and think that they are terrific. I live in the upper peninsula of Michigan where we ge plenty of snow and ice-I have never doubted my tires.
