It was small by my standards to be put in F350 dually’s and cab/chassis. Fleet owners would sometimes choose this package for endurance not power. I had the fuel injected version in a 91 F150, it had low end torque but it wasn’t my favorite powerband in a work truck with the gears it was mated with. No guts at highway speeds. The T-bird engine was designed to be in T-birds not trucks, so I agree with you on that engine. The Ecoboost 3.5 was designed for trucks, and in my opinion they hit a home run in the powerband department. We’ll see on the longevity department, I’ve got faith in it.The 'inline 6' was 4.9L, not exactly small by today's standards.. It was a natural aspirated 2V. The T-bird V6, Ford replaced it with was junk and had head issues. GM is now doing a diesel inline 6 for the Tahoe/Yukon.
Mine is a 95 but they were available up until 96 I think. It looks like you missed owning one by 4 years. You can compare the Ecoboost to anything out there in any make that is offered on a 1/2 ton platform all the way up to the current model’s. You’ll find it’s a top Contender in the towing world in that class. My biggest point I was trying to make about the Ecoboost is it’s not one of those “you better stay away from that problem engine” engines. It doesn’t have a track record that supports that even though many who have never owned one would THINK it should. It actually has a very happy customer base.
My good friend was still working at a Ford dealer as a mechanic when Obama came up with cash for clunkers/guzzlers program.
partially true i guess ... maybeUm, what? lol Obama didn't come up with the CARS program. Heck, his administration didn't even come up with it.
Once I get it back, the review will not be kind. At this stage, I'm seriously considering trading it in. I can get another 2017 with relatively low miles and re-up on a warranty. This would ensure I can get one with HD Tow since Limited and higher trims all have it, and minimize the depreciation hit.Wow…… that dealer sucks!
