I just went through this in my wife's 2001 xlt 5.4 expy. What I did is check the pressure at the fuel rail. Under the hood around the injectors on the passenger side, there is a schrader valve. If you have a fuel pressure guage, good. If not, I just wedged a screw driver in it sideways as if...
I think you need to do a little bit more looking into this. The OP said that he has the factory 20" wheel option in chrome. I am pretty sure that those are real wheels and not the plastic covered ones like the 17's and 18's are. I may be wrong, but it is worth a "double check".
