Thanks for the replies. I had the right bank for 5 and 7. Will see if I can hunt down vacuum leak tomorrow. And correct no flex fuel. Is 28 den advance a norm for this engine? Just curious if the cam phaser tic can make timing jump around. Most stuff I read seams to say it's just an annoyance.
Phaser issues will cause the timing to jump around but you won't see that on a scan tool. You'll just see what it's commanding

If the intake is the same as older models, check on the backside of intake from pcv. There is an elbow vac which usually gets a hole in it. can just use other bulk matching diameter hose. do not need to get the fancy elbow. dorman makes the part, too.

Yes, it's on the passenger side of the engine compartment at the very rear...with the truck running lift the wire and hoses and slip your fingers around the vac hoses and run their length...you'll feel the hole and you'll hear the engine speed change and smooth out...

Had it happen on both of my prior 5.4's

Today is my 1st chance to look at it. Borrowed a scan tool with live data. Tried squirting carb cleaner in that area with no change to the engine rpm. Used a mirror to look back there and hose looks very cracked. Will replace that today. Had battery disconnected for a different issues and no longer getting a miss code, now getting p0171 system lean bank 1 , p0151 system too rich bank 2.

Ok, replaced the plastic elbow and hose on the back of the intake manifold. Huge pain in the A%&. Elbow was cracked on the tapered part that is covered by the hose. Drivers side Cat is plugged. Removed it and a bunch of material fell out. Tried to blow air through with my compressor and cat is completely obstructed. Hard to believe it would start at all. Now I am waiting to come up with the $1000 bucks to replace the cat.

You could put in a temporary straight pipe until you get the money to replace the cat. I know you have emission testing out there but at least it would get you going for a while.

At our cost one is $2,700 and the other $1,800 for the cats only to meet CARB. It’s about $5,000 for two cats.
