Brake light - dash

The brake light on my dash isn't coming on when I apply the emergency brake. I know its not a bulb issue, because the light illuminates when I first turn the key to the on position. Is there a switch or sensor that controls the light when the E-brake is pressed? thanks

FYI...I figured it out. Theres a spring loaded plunger that the E-brake releases once it (E-brake) is engaged. Mine wasn't releasing. I hit it with a shot of silicon spray and it is now working flawlessly.

my dash break light wont turn off

i used my ebreak last week when i went to release the light stayed on... now it wont turn off, you think it could be the same spring loaded plunger?

I have a 2001 xlt and am having the same issue, pbrake accidently engaged, then released. Now the pbrake light is constantly on, any ideas?
