Exhaust manifold lug removing

Hi,
I had one of the lugs on my 99 4.6 blow off on the driver side manifold. I've got about 3/8 inch of the lug left. How can I get this off without screwing it up? Since I'm gona be doing this I'm going to get headers and a dual swept side exhaust too.

Any ideas help. Is this common? Is there a way to prevent it really?

i would say use a bolt extractor set and replace the stud and replace it
