rear lift gate ,i hear this is common. quoted $1700 to get the whole lift gate repainted. There is about 5 different spots like this on the hatch. MIght try to fix it myself any suggestions? Maybe a slight grinding and matching touch up? at least till i can afford to get it fixed properly.

All four of these are effed. This is the worst one. Buy new ones? are these fixable? if so whats the best way? Or is there any aftermarket options?

Damn, that tail gate is pretty bad. Have you tried hitting up any junkyards and seeing what they have? You might be able to get a cleanish looking one for a lot less.

If you're going to paint it, I'd do it right and strip all of the paint off and clean/prep the aluminum. I have a feeling that only stripping and painting certain areas might not match as well, especially on a large panel that everyone stares at while you drive. Granted, it'll at least look better than that picture hah.

Granted, there will come a point when you ask yourself if (in this case $1700) it'll be worth it to spend that much on an older vehicle.

That tailgate is pretty bad. The corrosion on mine was concentrated just above the license plate trim. I sanded mine down, prepped it, primed and painted. Doesn't match, but better than the corrosion. I'm just waiting to see if it starts again. If it does, I will get it professionally done. I know someone who does body work for a living and he said he'll repaint my entire liftgate for $200.

In regards to the black trim piece under the window, the black stuff on mine started flaking off and it is chromed underneath. It has happened on my driver's door and the driver's rear door also, the pass side is still black. I am going to try to pop them off and cover them with black vinyl. Good luck, looks like that Expy has seen some weather!
