Gen 1 and Gen 2 headlight assembly interchangability

I've searched as much as I can but can't find an answer as to whether or not a headlight assembly from a 2003 Expedition will interchange with a 1997 Expedition. I've refinished my 97 lenses twice now but it doesn't last very long. Recently I ran across a nice 2003 Expedition in a local salvage yard and they assure me they will directly interchange. Just wanted to make sure before I pull the trigger. Yes I know many aftermarket options, but the price and locale are right. Thank you!

...no they can't. 2nd gen expedition shares very little with 1st gen.
