It's a somewhat faint smell and it's not a bad smell that would make me want to roll a window down. It also only happens when the volume is close to max. Do you have to take the whole door panel off to access the cones? If the amp was clipping I would hear it in the music right? I only drive once every couple weeks during the summer so I don't get much of chance to test things out.

I know what clipping sounds like, but everyone's ears are different. I think that the grill thing can just be popped off, I've never done it though. The only time I've messed it was when the panels were off when I was deadening and putting things in. If it's not really bad it's probably just the soft parts breaking in. I love that new speaker smell lol.
