We've had the larger tires on for so long now I can't recall. We replaced the original tires in 2000 and now are on the 3rd set of the BFG's. Old sets have been replaced due to dry rot from the Arizona heat. The Expy has less than 80,000 miles on it.

Understood. My Dad put the current Michelin's on in June 2006. Almost 96K on them now and the only reason I am changing them is because of small cracks around the sidewall that have started to appear.
Thanks so much for sharing your info.

Hi,
I have a 1999 5.4 EB 2WD (rear air bags) with the factory 16" x 7" rims. The truck is not lifted or modified in any way. I would like to switch out the current tires (255/70-16) with a tire that, isn't necessarily wider but, has a larger diameter still using the factory rims that would fill out the wheel wells a few inches but won't cause rubbing issues. Any suggestions?

I went to Discount Tire and also asked at Costco and both places told me they would not be able to install larger tires, other than the standard factory size, on the rims due to safety liability. What do you do in this situation?? Take the rims off the vehicle and take just the rims to the installer?

The vehicle is used for around town and freeway driving, no off roading.

Any help/suggestions/photos would be greatly appreciated

3rd Generation Exp here but i put 35x12.5 on my stock 18's. I too do not do anything but on road driving so I wasnt too worried about driving home but I cycled the suspension and all good . Maybe a 1/4" spacer up front because the upper control arm comes close but i can get my finger in between still.

I haven’t noticed much difference in gas mileage since I moved to bigger tires. You can tell it rides higher though but gas mileage I feel is negligible.

Here are some pics of how it sits with the 265 75 16s. Also one pic before with the 255s then one with the 265s. The last pic is with the black rim is test fitting 275 70 17 which won’t fit without without a lot of cutting of the lower valence of the front bumper. Maybe would need work on part of the inner wheel well.

Again mine is completely stock, no lift, regular shocks, 02 2wd.

I am in the same boat. Stock 16-inch rims. Looking to fit bigger tires. Check your spare tire. My rim was rusted and had the original tire "flat" from the factory. I purchased an extra rim from EBay and will be doing a five-tire rotation.
