I just did an oil change on my Expo this past week and realized that when I had it changed last (I was out of town) the oil change place used a WAY SMALLER filter on my truck than OEM.

Does anyone know if this can have any negative effect and if so, what they are?

Go to Walmart and get a Motorcraft 820S, that's the factory oil filter. Hard to tell what your picture is showing from that perspective view.

Depends on the filter media used by the manufacture, the amount of trash in the system to be caught by the filter and the length of time the filter was on and un use.

That is a good point stamp11127 plus I do my oil changes every 3/4,000 miles so it was on for a minimal amount of time.

I've seen those before - the lettering was in Spanish. There's no way that small surface area is going to hold up -I'll bet those filters blow out the paper element. One of the reasons I tell my kids to never use Jiffy Lube, etc. The FL 820S Motorcraft is top quality and cheap.

Same thing happened to me a year or two ago. I had a broken wrist and had to take mine in to a quick pennzoil place. Not only was the filter shorter, but the circumference of the base of the filter was wrong too. That's what I get for taking my rig to a place like that.
