I had a grill insert I was trying to sell for a friend about a month back, and noticed it was totally different from a 97. It was closer for my 2000, but wouldn't fit mine either. The grills and inserts change almost yearly on vehicles, manufacturers do that to keep New Years fresh and different, without major expense. That's been going on for years.

There have been many discussions on grill swaps. the F150 grill is narrower on the bottom compared to the Expes. If you want to use an F150 you have to use the whole grille frame assembly. Good news is the aftermarket option is not too expensive
