4WD switching on and off!

Okay, I use my 4wd very rarely, and I have high mileage. The last time I put it into 4wd it had a tendency to change in and out of 4wd, A4wd, and 2wd on it's own. Someone I spoke to told me that there is an electronic switch that needs replacing that controls this. Does anyone here have any input on the price of fixing this and whether or not it is something I can do myself?

Mine does this when I put it in 4wd high (back and forth to 4awd) after I've had it in 4awd, but I figured it was normal.

Try taking the switch apart, maybe the contacts are gummed up with something.

By switch you mean the actual plastic piece on the dash board?
I was told that this could be something like that.
