Words can not describe how much of a pain in the ass the rear door panels are to take off and put back on. I had to fix my window in mine and that stupid little hanging plastic piece on the handle was the biggest pain and the stupidest design ford could have ever thought of.

Speakers look good man, i think it's time for me to upgrade mine too. I want to get the components for up front and put the tweeter in the shark fin like some others have done on here.

4x4, if you do that, mind hookin me up with an install? I would have no idea how to go about that. And I'd give you my rear speakers once I upgrade free of charge. Got them in Feb. Great condition still.

And for anyone who might be interested, might be selling some 22's by the end of the year for a great price.

Thanks 4x4 the rear panels were the worst part of the install. The pain was those plastics hooks you have to line up and i managed to break a couple due to the anger lol. But its worth it

4x4dude: You may want to rethink the tweeter placement.
Normally you want to keep the drivers as close to each other as possible. The biggest problem you'll have with the shark fin placement, is the fact that the drivers side tweeter will be so close. In a perfect world, you want to have all the speakers the same distance from the listener, as you would in a home theater.
By putting them in the shark fin, whole need quite a bit of processing to make things sound equal. If you'd like some help, check out www.elitecaraudio.com and click on the "install clinic" there are a bunch of articles there regarding car audio.
Of course it's your truck, and if you like the look, and don't mind the problems with staging and such, feel free to put them there... it's not as if it will sound terrible, just not optimum.
Also, if processing is not an option for you, I seem to recall one of those articles mentioning adding a (I think) capacitor to delay the sound long enough so it's not as much of a problem.

Of course if you want the best sound, put all the speakers in the kick panel. You may want to check Crutchfield to see if they have the Q-Forms kicks for your truck.

THere's one other thing to try. Get everything wired up, but leave the tweets uninstalled, and leave yourself enough wire to temp install the tweets in the shark fin, and next to the other driver in the door, and see which one you like better.

Good luck.... Although, I just remembered you're a DJ, so I'm guessing you know all this..... if so, then disregard all that. <grin>

Another thing about the shark fin is that the tweeter isn't facing toward your ears...and high frequencies are very directional.

Some tweeters can swivel a bit, helping to solve this problem...though the distance thing is still there.

But ease of installation - and the high price of the kick-panel enclosures - means that's where I tend to put them in my vehicles.

Ya i have to agree with **** on this. I'll probably end up getting the component set and see where the tweeter sounds best, but i think for lack of better placement for the tweeter and i don't have the money to get a kick panel i'll end up doing the shark fin.

I would love to get a nice kick panel and do it all up, but i have other and better ways to spend my money. I just want some better sound. I cant believe they only put 4 speakers in this huge truck. that to me just seems stupid. At least they could have put a couple speakers on the dash. Hell i had a S-10 blazer that is half the size of my expo and it had a 6 speaker sound system in it stock. Bad choice on fords part.

I'll be swapping them out around x-mas time as I'm upgrading my entire system. I'd like to upgrade to component fronts but not wanting to spend the extra money for the install. I'm just a complete bass head anyways so SQ isn't a super high priority.

Oh, also, if you want to take my CD changer too, I plan on taking it out as I have an aftermarket deck that doesn't work with it. Right now its just being used to hold CD's haha.

Sweet, ya let me know i'll come over and help you swap them out. I dont know if by then i'll even need the cd changer. right now i'm just using my ipod through the tape adapter, but once i upgrade my deck my changer will be useless as well. Do they sell center console inserts without the changer so you can have more space minus the changer?

Oh and don't think you have to sacrifice SQ for bass. If you hook all your speakers up through an amp and power your entire system by amp and add a cap or two, you get amazing bass with clear vocals and great SQ

Oh, swapping them out I've done many times already. What I was lookin to do is add a component system. And the CD changer has screws in it to make it removable I believe. So I'm pretty sure all you would have to do is unscrew it to get it out.
