Pretty sure its just a dust shield. Finding one from the scrap yard should be fine. Can you just bend it back to where it was?

The dust shield, shouldn't be holding the rotor on.

Most likely, the rotor is rusted on to the hub and someone tried hitting it with a hammer and bent the dust shield.

Some PB Blaster around the stud holes, perhaps some heat and a bunch of hard hits on the hub face with a decent size hammer will usually break it loose.

A word of warning though... you may end up damaging the rotor, so it's a good time to swap it out.

The rotor isn't stuck, it can jiggle. It is just trapped on there because the lip of the dust shield is bent. I can't pull the rotor off of the shield because it won't slip over the end of the wheel studs - they are too long.

I'm not sure I can straighten it while it is on the truck. It is pretty heavy gauge and I don't want to damage anything else.

Use vise grip or channel lock pliers and have at it. The only thing you could damage is the caliper and brake hose. Rest of it is steel.

Having a hard time seeing how the dust shield could stop the rotor from coming off. Didn't think it was large enough to bend over the rotor. At least that you could not bend it back.

If its the rear brakes are you sure its not the parking brake shoes??

May have to turn the star wheel in if this is the case.

Tom, now that is funny....

I envisioned a blonde, tool challenged Paris Hilton type trying to "straighten" the calipers. Oooooh sheet, I broke a nail.

This is not aimed at the op....

Need to get this fixed. Can anyone tell me what it is and estimate how much a fix would cost?

Easy do it yourself fix. Just need new sway bar link for your model expy.

Maybe $20 or so if you do both sides.

You can do a search on the part yourself to find prices.

How did your post end up in this thread??

Thank you for the quick response. Do I need to have the truck jacked up to do the job out can I do it on the ground as is? I seen that there was a thread already named "what's this called" so didn't want to create another thread.

:laughing1:

This is true. Did not consider that... lol.

Should be able to replace them fine with it sitting on the ground.

Your truck should lean a lot less while cornering after replacement. :)

Op, I would agree with Tom, the dust sheild isn't stopping the rotor from coming off, just bend it back. You will need to loosed up the parking shoe adjuster through the rear, bottom of the dust sheild. There will be a long hole, slide a flat screwdriver in there and turn the sdjuster a bit unrill the rotor will come off, If they have been whacked with a hammer go get new ones
