Hello lovely ford fans
greetings of peace and prosperity;

Is there any workaround to turn the traction control back on in 4Low drive mode??

I need it; it is very helpful in case you stuck in the desert.

Also What is the objective behind turning off the traction control in 4Low drive mode??

Thanks in advance.

I think the reason it disengages in 4L is because you shouldn't be going fast enough for it to engage.. why not just use 4H in first gear?

In the 4Low it makes a big difference with off roading fans;
You know the ford expedition Advance traction+The 4Auto+traction control ON = crawl control @Low speed if you stuck in desert. This will get you unstuck provided that you air down to 15 or 18 psi.
exactly like the land cruiser; I know this info is new to the forum.
this has been practically verified and certified.

The Land Cruiser VXR activates the traction control in the 4Low gear; if I find an answer to my first query to activate the traction in 4L; it will be a cristmas day.

The secret behind crawl control is the traction control in 4L mode to prevent wheels from spinning unpurposely, while advance traction decrrases the engine power transmitted to the spinning wheel and directs it to the wheel having more traction.

hope this helps.

this is engineering.

makes perfect sense, Be neat to know if it is possible somehow, I watched a buddy climb a normally impossible sandhill in 4lo 1st gear in a jk, it was very cool how it just pawed its way up and over without spinning a wheel

Thank you; great reply.
Any input on certain wire that sends the TCS off signal to the microprocessors in the expedition? I mean when it is engaged in 4L.
I don't have the traction control module wiring diagram; If I get my hands on it; I think I can apply my own engineering analysis to achieve the target. I guess only the Ford electrical engineers has this wiring schematic.

Thats how my grand cherokee is with he variloc axles. Been in some steep slippery conditions and not a single tire spun.

Sorry.. I think it can't be manually activated.. The $$$ work around obviously is to add a locker.. I hope I am wrong though..

Great contribution guys;
Yes it cannot be manually activated; besides I sent an email to ford asking them if there is a workaround;
Hopefully will get a feedback.

The automatic*ControlTrac*four-wheel drive system can be coupled with*AdvanceTrac*electronic stability control, which includes*four-wheel electronic traction control. The combination of these two systems is innovative due to a vehicle equipped as such, can continue to move forward with only one wheel having traction.[7]AdvanceTrac's four-wheel electronic traction control system uses the vehicle's four-wheel four-sensor*four-channel*anti-lock braking system*(ABS) and is programmed with additional anti-slip logic to simulate*differential locks*via aggressively "brake*locking" either the*frontor*rear*drive axle*differentials. By ABS brake locking the front and rear differentials, up to 100 percent of torque can be sent to any one drive wheel, allowing the vehicle to keep moving, even with two of its drive wheels (one front, one rear) completely off the ground.[7]
-------------------------------------------------
This is proving my point that Both Traction control and Advance Traction talks to each other in this miracle expedition.

Unbelievable technology; truly patented; the torque biasing can dedicate the whole power to even one wheel.
very important to turn on the traction control if you stuck in desert while offroading to crawl.

You could try posi trac in the axles

Interesting.
But I need to find out any technical answer to the first query first.

if you guys think this subject is a totally new experience; please let me know so that I will try to get my hands on the schematic diagram of the traction control module.

im honestly not sure how to help you, the traction control is just intelligent wheel breaking when the truck senses slipping so maybe it works in 4low but its just not sensing the slippage in the sand due to the low tire speed and engine rpm

I don't know why it's not available in Low range. A lot of those decisions are made of course to support the vastly different uses that the truck will get once out in the "real" world. And sometimes it makes perfect sense to use it in your application. Even if the engineers decided not to activate it.
The entire electrical and other schematics are available in the Factory Service Manual. So the first thing to do would be to order that. It may even be available on CD.

I didn't know traction control is not available on 4L. It's one of the main reason why I bought it. I hope to get a chance to go a little offroading next weekend and see how it does. Disappointing thou

Thank you for the valuable response, this is true, Ford should listen up to this, however if you guys are interested, a topic for me was recently approved by Ford and brought down to voting now, click here to vote to install electronic locking differential for the Ford expedition.

The reason it was not done the way we wanted it to be is because in 4L the same power and torque is applied 50:50 between front and real wheels, if the traction control was optional, it would have been of no meaning, because even if it stops the tire spinning freely, it wouldn't be able to transfer power anymore to the other tire having more traction, as the torque and power are distributed equally 50:50, so the only solution that ford has to adopt into the expedition is installing the electronic locking differential to lock the two wheel to spin together creating extreme traction to move the vehicle.

I hope it is clear by now.
