I was on the freeway in traffic and some guy rear ended me as traffic was coming to a stop... I felt just a tiny bump and we both pulled over. He was driving some japanese coupe, maybe an acura, and on his car a bunch of paint had come off the front and his hood was folded up. On my expedition, I just had a little paint from his car on the trailer hitch that wiped off and that's all. Since nothing happened to my truck, and it was his fault, he drove off without us exchanging any information.
Has anybody else experienced something like this, were the other person's car gets messed up and your expedition drives away unhurt?

Not with my expedition but in my 96 F150 i had before my expedition i had a lady in a civic rear end me. I had 3/4ton springs and 4wd so it sat pretty high in the back, he hood hit my hitch and picked the back end of my truck up in the air, but it folded her hood and took out her radiator and stuff.

When the cops got there they told me if my truck was driveable to go ahead and drive it off her car....i threw it in 4wd (back tires were off the ground) and gave her some throttle and off it came, only damage was it bent my Exhaust tips a lil. Her car was damn near tottalled.

Im glad I have the Expedition in parking lots just as much as driving because you don't know how many time I've just bin sitting in the parking lot waiting when some idiot doesn't realize how big their car is and decides to hit the trailer hitch or the 2 tow hook things on the front BUT the look on their face when they see me sitting there laughing at them is priceless.

Sounds like the trailer hitch has saved a few of us... it does make a good solid bumper gaurd. Also, sitting up high has saved my expedition a few dings since most car doors hit the plastic side cladding which usually doesn't leave a mark. The only big ding I have on my expedition is from scrapping against the edge of a table saw table while pulling into a garage. What's sad is I was pulling it in to have some shade to wax in, and instead of making my truck look better, I made it look worse.

Best part of having 7" of lift... no door dings. Their doors hit the running board and don't come near the paint.

Worst thing about an Expedition is slipping on the damn running boards and falling on your a$$.

re slippery running boards-

if you put a little herculiner (or some similar diy bedliner product) on your boards, you can really cut down the slipperiness! takes less than 10 min both sides. just do the ridges on the boards.

worked well for me.....lakeside

Thanks. Nothing makes ya feel like a dork more then going to hop into the truck and fall from the height of the seat down on to your a$$..... and of course it always happens when friends are with you or in-front of a crowd

Safe in your Expedition

There are several reasons that it is better to be in a truck while in an accident.
The first is the weight of the vehicle. The more weight the better for you.
Most trucks are almost twice the weight of a passenger car. The next reason
Is that a truck is usually higher than a car. This puts the truck occupants higher up and out of the way of the direct force of the accident. Another reason is that most trucks have a full frame were most cars are unibody design. Full frames are more ridged. The last reason is the contact areas of the vehicles in the crash.
All vehicles are now designed to fold up easier on the front hood area.
This allows energy to be dissipated and directed around the people. As an example you can look at the underside of your hood and see the fold point indentations. This keeps the hood from flying into the windshield. Even engines
are designed to fold up under the passenger cabin and not back into your lap.

I was rear-ended by a 17-year old girl driving her mom's brand-new Jetta. The front of her car was virtually gone. There were pieces of her radiator twenty yards in front of my truck. It bent my bumper down a little, but her car was completely totalled. Her airbags also didn't deploy. She was reaching for a cell phone when she hit me. Oh well... I guess it's worth the lousy MPG to be able to drive away from a wreck that bad.
