I know larger tires will increase rotational mass. I plan to regear when I get the larger tires. At which point I won't be worried about weight or gas mileage cause I will be getting paid more at that point. I'm not looking to doing the lift, larger tires, gears, bumpers etc for another year or two. Just trying to see where I can gain a few mpgs in the meantime. Might only be 1 or 2 mpgs but to me that will add up over the next year or two. Everything I'm planning on doing to the expy I have already done to my f150 and explorer that I previously owned. F150 had the 5.4 in it as well and I was able to pull 23-24 mpgs on average. The explorer had the 5.0 and I had better results with anywhere between 25-28 mpgs on average.

It's fun sometimes to be silly and not talk shop! Kinda reminds me of back in the 70's when we talked cb radio, but now with a keyboard instead of mike!

That video was funny. Now break out the sawzall and cut up your truck. On an expy or f150 those mods should shave 100to 125 pounds!

Hell no! The only thing getting cut with a sawzall on this expy is the exhaust!

That would be interesting to see a full sized SUV, expy or other, rolling down the road with half its body cut off. Lmao just the thought of it

to build a climber vehicle I pulled the air conditioning out of a Jeep. Its a lot of weight, and did require me to fashion a bypass pulley for the missing condenser. I gained 3-4 mpg, but I think most of that was due to the condenser not being on the belt anymore. But more HP is easier than less weight...

I know that lmao. When I watch MCM's episode, I keep thinking of an episode on viva la bam where Knoxville chopped bam margeras roof off his hummer.

So many years ago I use to be into SCCA autocrossing and track days. I had a '92 Saturn SC (the coupe). It was already fairly lightweight. But because it was only a 4 cylinder, weight was the enemy. I went through a lot of what you are doing because the less weight I had to accelerate, brake and change directions, the faster I would be.

So I removed the AC, I changed the power windows to crank, I took out the carpet and removed the Dynamat-like sound deadener stuck to the floor pan, I removed the back seat, removed the spare tire, took out the interior panels, bought light weight wheels, changed the metal power steering pulley to a plastic pulley, changed the driver seat to a racing seat and probably a few other things. I estimate it was down around 2100 lbs.

It was a daily driver.... for awhile. All those extreme measures to reduce weight also greatly reduced comfort. It more or less sounded like I was driving a tin can. I could hear the tires tossing rocks and sand into the bottom of the car. It droned at highway speed with all those interior panels and carpet missing.

And in the end, I saw little to no improvement in gas mileage. I know in theory, removing weight should help, but maybe it got lost in the statistical noise. Maybe the 5.4 will respond better to weight savings. But how much money are you thinking you'll really save by doing all this? Gas is cheap right now you'd have to drive a lot to see much return. Maybe at a whopping 37 I'm too old to think about driving around a vehicle like that anymore.

What I found interesting is that the OP is asking for advice And then he states,

"Everything I'm planning on doing to the expy I have already done to my f150 and explorer that I previously owned. F150 had the 5.4 in it as well and I was able to pull 23-24 mpgs on average. The explorer had the 5.0 and I had better results with anywhere between 25-28 mpgs on average."

Really doesn't make sense to ask for advice when he has all ready done what he is planning to do and achieved the results he claims on the other two vehicles.
