My 08 Expy is getting a bit long in the tooth... I love almost everything about it other than some things not working anymore (my brother did something to the power tailgate, rear wiper is shot, front fan is temperamental) and more so its getting a bit sluggish and given how I drive it sometimes, I really need the power back. I'm just turning 282K on the orig drivetrain and just waiting to hit the big 300 before I turn her loose (probably in another 4 months). I'm a Realtor and a Firefighter- all the chiefs trucks were changed to Chevy about 8 years ago and I just don't like them (and with the exception of 1 Chief, neither do they). Had a rental EL Expy (base model) and fell in love- everything was tight, it was quick and holy hell the gas mileage was superb comparatively speaking. So I'm absolutely going used because I'm looking at another Limited and would prefer a Platinum, prob want white again but would consider silver. I heard that in 16' they put in Sync 3 and its way better than the old my touch? Is this true? My cousin had a 12' F-150 with the ecoboost and did absolutely NOTHING to it except oil, tires at 85K (YEA, ORIG TIRES) and a couple misc bulbs- NOTHING ELSE. It was awesome. He traded it at 110K when it was 3.5 years old. However, been looking around at some posts and the new expys sound like they might be a little more problematic than the F-150s... Is there any specific year to avoid- I would assume the 15's, 1st year but there sounds like a bunch of evap stuff going on in the 16's..

I can confirm the 2016 has Sync 3. It can even be updated to Sync 3 v2.2 to add support for Android Auto. This means you can use Google Maps or Waze on the dash screen for nav, even without the Ford Nav package.

2018 is getting the new 10-speed tranny, upgraded from the 6 and aluminum body. So, more power and better economy.

Been stalking the 18's since there was initial rumblings, Im afraid its going to feel too much like the Infinity whale suv that's out there, bulky and bubly. Personally don't like the rear ends (at least from the pictures) and given the way the packaging department has been toying with Lincolns, I wouldn't have any idea what to expect. I literally love everything about my truck now and not quite ready for something completely different. I heard rumors that some of the Chiefs may be getting them over the next year or so- and I just purchased a new super duty 550 for the department. Its being fabricated now. Can't wait to see the new ones, but not ready to bite the bullet yet for my own on an 18... plus I can get a 16/17 for 30-40k

Yea you pretty much have to hit 300k just so you can say to did it IMO. The Modular V8s just don't like to quit. I question the ecoboosts longevity when compared to a N/A Modular V8, I mean they are known to go half a million miles. I don't necessarily think 15' is a bad year its just not brand new anymore. I don't like the GMs either the 3rd row is useless and I've just always liked fords. Don't forget a 15' through 17' is the exact same truck as your 08' other than an engine and a grille and two lights. It wouldn't have been very economical for them to change much for an outgoing generation of trucks other than what they did (a few pieces of plastic and trim).

Def gotta hit 300K, my 03 explorer rusted out underneath (not on body at all) and had to get rid of it at 278K. I looked into a front clip swap- about 2-3k, headlights were 4/500 a piece, fogs were 200 each, bumper and grill another $1200.. and Id want the platinum rims too... But Its a little sluggish after I drove a newer one and everything just felt light and new (buttons, handles, the sound the doors make when they shut). I LOVE the startup and engine grunt of my truck all day long, but the pick up of the ecoboost from start or mid speed was untouchable. And the gas mileage, I was able to get 21mpg- on a 2016 4wd EL... I was trying to best it, but the best I can get in mine is 17... 3rd row flat is hands down best out there. I also flip houses a few times a year and it is just as worth as a pickup. I brag when its raining that I can fit drywall in there and get it back to site and its still dry..

If you don't want a 17 the 16 is the one that you want. The EB is solid in these trucks but there is TSB for the throttle body on the 2016s. I don't know if it will change to include the 17s, but I'll have to wait and see. If you get a 16 you will probably have to update the software and update the module in the center console so that you can use the Apple Car Play apps. I like my 17 and by the end of the year you might be able to get some really good deals once the 18s are on the lot.

I do love the sound of any triton engines startup... I have no idea what it is but I can tell a Ford Modular V8 starting in any vehicle from any other engine. They have a very unique startup sound. I get what you mean with the light and new feeling. yours has given you 300k in service so it's not giving off that feeling I get that. the ecoboost is quick to pickup speed when you get on it. They have a good torque curve and it comes in low... I think the only thing that keeps me away is the sound and longevity questions. The one gripe I've always had with Expedition is it's a one motor wagon. It was the 4.6, then 5.4, now 3.5.... give me OPTIONS!!!

That was the biggest thing that I missed about my 05 in the beginning, but now after 6 months of ownership it's a fading memory because of all of the other benefits. The F-150s make the V8 sound inside the cabin through the soundsystem. :D

Yep it's a fabricated sound through speakers which is not quite real enough for me... and that's not what people on the outside are hearing when you step on it:patriot: to some it may not be important though and that's ok.

Hey there, so I've got a 2016 EL Platinum 4x4 with 16K miles on it and love it. I got mine for $52K (listed at $70K) with 100miles on it. Only issue like stated above is I had it stall on me and threw a code for the Electronic throttle body which was replaced in about 15 minutes at dealership. I get roughly 18 city and 22 highway. Just put a readylift 3/2 lift kit on her, too. Sync 3 is very easy to use and I love the amount of space I can get with all seats folded down.

I've heard a lot of 15s have that paint bubbling issue but other than that they seem to be ok.

It's funny that J brings up the sound of the 5.4.....I always thought it was too subdued....a great, deep sound...just too quiet! I can still enjoy it though because I'm a procrastinator and still have my old truck in the driveway....haven't gotten around to selling it yet. I start it up every few weeks or so....just to keep it alive! LOL

21K on my new truck and it's a beast!

I've had mine 6 months and I have 4754 miles on it. but now the miles will slow way down because we don't have any more long trips until next summer.

Hw do you get Waze on the dash? I have IPhone, and Waze never shows up as an app through Carplay. Is that something Androids can do but not IOS?

Waze isn't certified for Apple Play yet. We use Waze all the time when we travel. I love that app. It has told us to get off the turnpike when there was a big wreck ahead and detoured us around it - saved us a bunch of time. I hope they get it certified soon.

I've had good experiences with the Maps app on the IPhone. Although last Thanksgiving we were on our way back from FL and headed to Atlanta to visit the kid when the Maps app said "Quicker route available" (there was a wreck ahead). Having taken that advice many times before, we dove off I-75 somewhere in GA and promptly ended up on a dirt road that literally ended at a tree line. Right when we realized there was no road and stopped, out comes this voice from my phone "Make a U-Turn". Now you tell me.

You do need to check which version of Sync3 you have. The '17s don't have 2.2, so I don't think you can show Waze / Maps thru Android Auto.

Regarding the engine sound, I've never owned a v8, so maybe I'm just missing something, but I really like the jet fighter sound of the 3.5 turbos spooling up. I love having the windows open to hear it.

I did a manual upgrade to 2.2 per the link provided by @LokiWolf in another thread but it still doesn't allow WAZE to work on CarPlay.

There's the Ford V8 sound above. A "roar".

There is ecoboost sound just for a comparison of tone.

Just for clarity...No Waze via Carplay currently. Apple CarPlay ONLY supports Apple Maps at this time.

I considered waiting for the '18 but bought a new '17 last month. Coming from an '07 everything falls exactly in place, nothing new to learn other than the Sync3 system and geehaws like the sun roof and other power stuff. I heard the '18 trucks has a dial or knob for the transmission and I wasn't happy about losing the lever.
