So about to do a trans filter change this weekend on my 07 as the pan gasket has developed an annoying leak. Figure since I got to drop it why not do a filter.
My question is how do you know how much to refill when there is no dip stick.
Thanks for the reply’s

There is a dipstick under the bolt on the side, fill it to the bottom of the hashes if you do it cold so it has room to expand.

While I gotcha. - got a oil leak on driver side front of motor. Looks like a sob to get to.
Anybody tackled fixing one of those? Looks like it’s really gonna suck to get to.

Looks like a oil cooler take off or something. Not sure what to call it. It’s towards front side of motor on driver side. 2 bolts flanged to block. I’ll look again when I’m working on trans.
It’s just so tight can’t tell much.

If you are going to check the fluid, make sure you wear heat resistant gloves to check the stubby trans dipstick. The engine and transmission must be up to temperature so the bypass valve opens allowing trans fluid to flow into the trans cooler. If not, you fluid will be low. Of course the exhaust pipes / cat convertor is right there to burn you as you attempt this..

Ford techs can use their computer to open the valve without having the temp up high. Of course they will have it on a lift.

I was going to do this on my 08 Expy but I brought it to the dealer and had them do it.

Summit Racing sells a filler tube dipstick kit. Brings it up to the top on the firewall. Going to put one on mine along with an aluminum larger capacity oil pan.

The Ford dealer in Hempstead, NY overfilled mine by a quart and a half after replacing the bulkhead connector under warranty.

I understand why they did this, but, jeez. Thanks for ruining it for those of us who know what we're doing....I'm talking to those shade tree mechanics who don't have a clue.

Some of them they were kind enough to put in “cold fill” marks so you didn’t have to do the hot cat thing, but not on all.

The engine still needs to be running when you check the fluid.

My old 2006 Explorer was nuts. You had to have a special adapter that spun into the center of the drain plug, then you used a large "hypodermic needle" to push fluid into the pan, then you disconnect from the adapter and let the pan drain until it stopped running out. You never knew how much, if any, to put in. If all you wanted was to check the level, it was the same process....put some in, let it drain. No dipstick.

Yea but at least those guys can check it and jump back up before the cat hits 2000 degrees lol

I bought a set of these from harbor freight. Makes it alot easier to pull the plug once its loosened.

Lol nothing about fords crappy design is “easy”. Why should we have to use a suction gun to fill trans fluid?

Yea those bolts are fun. I had to make a conglomeration of swivels and extensions to get at them past the exhaust.

So I decided to check my trans fluid level due to the awesome stuttering/slipping that is occasionally happening. Fluid looks good and level was near the top of hash marked area.
Here's the fun part.
I went to screw the nut back on over the dipstick and realized there weren't any threads on it. The f*#ker had snapped.
I thought it came off easy.
I am thinking of JB welding it back in place. Or maybe a couple tac welds.
Any thoughts on a remedy?
This is the Wife's ride and she needs it soon. Any thoughts are appreciated .
