The front shape and losing the hood emblems was about pedestrian safety.

I agree, cars have definitely shrunk. Real American cars were big and utilitarian unlike today.... they’ve lost practicality they once had. I’m growing to appreciate classic cars much more as time goes on.... they just had character and their own identity. Today it’s like they are all carbon copies, and that’s because they all share platforms and parts out of the same bin.

We have the Cafe standards thank for this. Though not a heartfelt thanks.

Hopefully this new administration will roll back this nonsense.

Sure would like to see ethanol go the way of the dodo as well. Serves no functional purpose in gasoline.

I remember 3 adults across in seats of cars. Try doing that in any sedan today?

Station wagons used to have a third row, although facing backwards. It is hard finding a station wagon today at all, and no third row even if folding.

When I mentioned the length of the 2016 the Cadillac De Ville used to be a little longer than the 2016 EL. The 1979 Ford LTD Country Squire from National Lampoon’s Vacation was only 6 inches shorter than the 2016 EL, and longer than the standard wheelbase.

The two door 1979 LTD 2 door sedan was 2” longer than the Expedition standard wheel base. Sure the front hood was longer, but that was a lot of leg room and trunk space.

EDIT: The point of that is sedans used to be the size of our vehicles.

219.9 inches long. Longer than the standard wheelbase, and about 1.5” shorter than an EL.
