Guys, new forum member who has beat the search button to shreds: deciding between Navigator L and Expy EL, 2015-2017 models.

Anyone lifted/leveled an EL (or a Navigator L) that has auto leveling rear suspension? I like the idea of auto level, as I tow a 24.5' Supra boat that clocks in at 8500#, but if it cannot be lifted, I may just go standard and try to stiffen the rear enough to prevent awful sag. I test-towed the boat today with a standard length Expy without auto level, and the squat was not too bad. The EcoBoost WON ME OVER. Coming from a Sequoia, which I have loved. But it does NOT have the 'nads that the 3.5 does!

Advice is appreciated!


UPDATE: Found some material on fooling the rear air suspension to lift the truck...via custom control arms. Looks dope! Has anyone done this on a 2015-2017.....or on the same year of Navigator? I have to assume the system is the same, but you never know with the wylie engineers....

2015-2017 do not have an “active” leveling air suspension, they have Nivomat brand self leveling shocks. They are self contained. The same leveling/lift kit works on all 15-17 Expy’s, Nivomat or no Nivomat.

Certainly awesome to learn! How about Lincoln, does anyone know what they're using?

Did all the ELs come with the Nivomats--or is that an option. I was surprised at how this truck handled my boat without sagging too much...

No, not all ELs had load leveling suspension. All Navigator L 2wd come with load leveling. All Navigator L 4WD come with CCD. Supposedly you cannot lift the CCD suspension...

You cannot lift the CCD with what is available on the market. In theory it is “possible”, but it would be 100% Custom. Main reason I stayed away from it.

Excellent to know this, exactly why I asked the brain trust. Very hard to decipher the clues as you look at used cars, and nobody spells out exactly what systems are on these trucks.

Thank you guys! I think I am sticking with the EL Expy. A little more my style anyway!

You can get an EL without CCD and lift it

Be careful. If it is a Platinum with 22’s it most likely has CCD. Stick with a limited with 20’s with the heavy tow pack and load leveling and you have the perfect combo. That is what I have and have been very happy.

People(Including Ready Lift) keep saying you can fit a 35 with the 3/2 Lift. You cannot if you have the Electric Running Boards. A True 33, Skinnier the better helps. Width of the tire, not just height matters.

Traxda says that 2wd fits 33" tires and 4wd fits 35" tires with a 3/2 lift. I havent heard that automatic running boards cause a problem, dont they sit up higher and out of the way when you're driving?

It is well documented that the Electric boards have less clearance. I know this from experience. Also my comment was directly related to the Ready Lift kit. I have no experience with the Traxda kit.

@Zero Offset i have 35s with Readylift 3/2 and electric running boards and zero rubbing. OEM wheels. Their site says “fit up to 35/11.50 on OEM”. @LokiWolf Not sure where You heard that

Because I lifted our 15 before they changed their site and mentioned that it had to be 11.50. My comment that Offset quoted was from VERY early in this thread. Ready lifts site used to just say 35, no comment on width. Mine and several others feedback is why it changed.

You still can fit less of a tire with the Electric boards. That is a fact. Because they also can’t be trimmed like the plastic can in the fender well if you need a little extra.

I have 9" wide 0mm offset wheels and want to run 35x12.50r20 tires.

I have the Traxda 2.75"/ 2.25" spacer lift kit.

Depending on the year of ur truck, you may have to do ALOT of cutting. You’d be better off running an actual suspension lift if you wanna go that wide of a tire.

The ready Lift is a Spacer Kit also. They are suspension, not Body, but use spring spacers to achieve the lift.

A true suspension lift moves all the components of the suspension up. Spacers just push everything up. I have the Readylift but dont call it a lift kit. It’s a spacer kit/leveling kit technically
