I'm looking for the part number for Motorcraft plugs on a 2008 with the newer production motor (Engine date after 10-9-07 with brown boots) I presume the proper OEM part would be the plaitnum plug.

What I'm finding is one part number for both the pre 10-09-07 and the later motors.

Can anyone clear this up?

I also see Chinese knock-offs on ebay and Amazon marked "Motorcraft". Beware.

Search is my friend. It looks like RigPig answered this very question a year ago:

... SP-507 is the Motorcraft number for the '07-08 Expys (black boots) and the SP-515 supersedes the SP-507 and is a one-piece plug. The SP-509 are for the '08-up 5.4 (brown boots) and will not fit older models...

Can anyone confirm this?

The number on the plugs that came out of my 07’ (black boots) are PZH14F as printed on the plug, I just changed all my plugs and boots a month or so back. This is correct that the old style and new style boots and plugs are not interchangeable.

The number on my spark plug references to SP-515 (correct) so it looks like the poster knows what he’s talking about. I’d just go to AutoZone or ford and ask for the correct plugs and they will look them up and get them to you. I got all my Motorcraft plugs and boots from autozone.

Sp546 supersedes the sp515 and is the newest version but I don't believe that fits your 08

How did you determine the plugs on Amazon were Chinese knock-offs? Did you notify Amazon?

Some of the ebay ones are shipped from China, and I've seen them. They are not Motorcraft made. The boxes are more obviously fake than the plugs. Some of the Amazon ones are the same price as the phony ones, so I suspect they are the same. They're 30% cheaper than the cheapest wholesale Motorcraft pricing.

Was there a reason SP515 was superseded? Those were the plugs I pulled out of the motor and I had no problems with them.
Huge complaints of the 515 being bad out of the box. I'm not sure exactly what was changed to fix that but the 1 difference I noticed was the heat stain(blue ring from welding) wasn't on any of the 546 I got but is on every 515 I've ever seen.

Heres a picture to show what I'm talking about. Again, I'm not sure what changes were made but the 515 is old news now. I do see the angled piece on the newer plug runs a little deeper but that's about it

They sold me the newer SP-546 plugs. Originally they gave me 509s and brown boots that all had to be returned, those were the new style for the 08+ heads so 509 is definitely your number trainmaster.

The new design looks less likely for carbon to blow by seat and gather around bottom half if plug was to loosen up.It definitely looks like bottom half is larger diameter and takes up more tolerance in the plug hole. I’d put anti-seize on that blank area along with the threads and don’t think carbon would stand a chance at seizing them now. Or corrosion.

Thats good! I did mine almost 3 years ago and the 515 was the only one available so I'll be doing mine again soon with the 546

Just sent my order in to Rock Auto. I believe that anyone selling these plugs at 30% lower prices than Rock is selling knock-offs. Rock Auto is about the best on prices. Also ordered a set of Motorcraft brown boots, and fuel and air filter. That should be it for the 90K service.

Thank you, gentlemen for the help with that part number.

The 515s were prone to breaking upon removal due to the 2 piece design, and prone to early failure. I just replaced my 515s w the 546s due to a terrible misfire that did not throw a code. Runs great now.
