i know this has probably been beaten to death, but is it possible on 3rd gens to remove center seat and add arm rest to existing outside seats? Thanks for the help.

Multiple existing threads on this subject. Yes you can remove the center seat but you must re-install all the bolts. Also, there is an *extra* hole under there that *must* also be plugged as it leads to outside. Get a rubber plug from Ford.

Outboard seat frames do not come with attaching points for the armrests. For some reason, Ford made two different seat frames -- one with armrests and one without.

Yes second row bench. Has someone successfully added the attached points for the arm rests? I had the Ford dealer look up the p/n’s of the seats and they are 2 different part numbers.

In order for it to be a bolt-in swap you would need to replace the entire seat frame. I suppose you could take the seat covers off and modify the frames yourself to add an attachment point. But, that would be a lot of work. Even after all that effort, you may find that the 2017 and older armrests are too narrow to be very useful. This is one thing that was improved *dramatically* in the 2018 redesign.

Do you NEED the arm rests? You don't get an arm rest with the bench, so why do you all of a sudden need it with the buckets? Just take the middle seat out, put the bolts back in, get a husky liner to cover up the now ugly spot on the floor and be done with it....That's what I did.

I've been thinking about doing this myself with my 2016.. Nobody (but me) ever seems to be able to remember how to flip the 2nd row outer seats forward to access the third row.. Would you happen to have a picture of how it turned out with the center removed and the Husky mat/liner in place?

Interesting! Is this a '15-'17 model? The floor looks slightly different than the older '07-'14 models. For example, I don't see the "extra" hole underneath the middle seat that causes problems when the seat is removed.

It’s a ‘15. There is an extra hole but it doesn’t go all the way thru.

You may find that it does. I learned this the hard way on my 2009 when mice got in through that hole. Looking at it from above, you can't tell it doesn't go all the way through. I checked it out using a flashlight at night. From just the right angle, I could see the driveway under the truck! Needless to say, I plugged that hole fast!

Tried that with the flashlight, never saw the light underneath. Wiggled my finger around in there and it seems pretty solid.

Might want to plug it anyway just in case. It's possible they made a change to the floor in 2015. Then again, it's also possible it's the same as before. In that case, vermin and exhaust fumes can get in through that hole.

Thanks sixsix, great pictures. I'm doing this, I never have 3 across the 2nd row anyway.

Me neither, plus it makes it easier for the kids to get back to the 3rd row.

I highly suggest the husky 3rd row liner to cover the screws and ugly patch left over from taking the seat out. I tried using the oem carpeted mats to cover it but they never stayed in place. And the screws do stick out a little bit when you put them back in. With the husky liner in place you can’t tell it was ever there.

I just ordered it. Seat removal is in the plans for this evening. Thanks again for sharing the pictures, it was a huge help.

Where did you get the mat?
