I saw an article today where a child succumbed to heat exhaustion in a new expedition. The article had no names so I hope this didnt involve any members here, but if it did im(and behalf of the ef.com family)sending my condolences, prayers and love your way regardless. I cant imagine the pain and devastation this brought to the family. I am hoping Ford sees this article and puts the new rear seat reminder tech in all of their vehicles, any way to reduce these instances of tragic events is a goal should be reached.

Wow this is terrible........condolences to the family and mom especially. I’m not a fan of extra gadgets and tech but I agree with this one with the back seat reminder, can save life because this occurs too much. However I don’t believe this is fords fault or responsibility in any way. I’m wondering if she fell asleep in the truck and that is why this occurred. We really don’t know the whole situation so it’s all speculation. I don’t really want to think about it because it’s just terrible.....for everyone involved. Rest In Peace.

It is very sad. I have 6 children, the oldest being 12 and the youngest being 3.....not sure how someone can forget their children in their vehicle. In my area, a mother forgot her child in her hit vehicle a d the police were called....kid was fine, no police action taken. Only a month or so later she did it again.....unfortunately the child died the 2nd time......

Just posting as a concerned parent.

Usually it is a parent that is off their routine.

GM has it in their rear seats, at least in the 18 Suburban LT I Drove the other day. Had a work bag in the back and it popped up on the display and a chime every time I turned the vehicle off.

A reminder sounds great, only problem is how long until it gets ignored. The other problem I see is that we shouldn’t become reliant on that because what happens when it breaks or malfunctions? Or say you do see it and tell a back seat passanger to wake the person up and they ignore you because that is after all what kids do. There is no sure fire way to protect the passengers unfortunately...there is no ultimate protection ford can provide. All we can do is be vigilant and aware of what’s going on. Not trying to sound mean in any way we all make mistakes and unfortunately that’s all it takes.

Doesn’t need to be too much. Just as you said a little chime or 1 second reminder upon shut down. Only problem is how long until it gets ignored. You don`t need razzel dazzel electronic buzzers, you need responsible parents. For the ol timers on here, do you remember your mother watching you like a hawk while growing up?

It is a sad fact that stupid parents raise stupid kids. Who forgets their hildren? I have 21 dogs and watch them like a hawk. Haven't left one and haven't lost one. A few of them are "runners" and wanted to run out when the front door is open. I taught them what happens when they try. Body slam to the wall and held there for a few seconds. Didn't take long to get the message. Now they stand back from the door and look out.

It all comes down to parenting. Unfortunately the innocent children are the ones paying the price.

Well...according to the article this was an 11 year-old girl that was old enough to exit on her own after a shopping trip. My 11 year-old is clever enough to get out of the car if it’s too hot in there so something else is going on with this story. It’s reasonable to believe your 11 year-old is fully capable of getting out of a car after a grocery run and when other two siblings managed to exit. A lot of the facts are missing. I’ll reserve judgment on this one for now. Perhaps abuse disguised as a forgotten child in a vehicle.

It’s a sad state of affairs that parents can’t remember their kids in the car. I bet if there was $1000 in the back seat parents wouldn’t forget that. Just like not using car seats or seat belts, if you wouldn’t transport your flatscreen without securing it, why would you transport your kids with seatbelts or car seats as needed.

This is sad and many people do it here in Arizona
Can't imagine forgetting a child or pet when you get out of your vehicle & lock it when hot outside
I have mixed emotions about these parents
Part of me wants to sympathize with them & the other part wants so slap them upside the head for being so stupid
wonder if programming the vehicle to start the engine & turn on ac if temp rises above 90 degrees if seat sensor detects weight on it
Could also turn on the alarm for same reason
Our expedition has a motion sensors mounted above the rear view mirror
Recently I stopped at a UPS office to drop off a package
One of our dogs was in the back
Outside temps at around 100
Only in UPS for a couple of minutes & alarm was triggered before I could get back to the vehicle
I thought all 2018 EXPY's had this feature???:(
