Hi,

I've been lurking in this forum for a while now and I must say, it's a great community - thanks for all the amazing info and photos that people post here.

I have a 2017 EL Limited 4wd with the 3.73 axle and no load leveling suspension. I'd like to increase its offroad capabilities, mainly for camping/hiking trips in the California desert.

I've been reading through lots of threads here of people putting the ReadyLift 3/2 kit on and fitting something like 34/11.5 tires on. I don't care that much about the looks, but I'd guess that the reduced suspension travel would not be ideal for off-road situations, while the increased clearance from larger tires would certainly help.

Can I just put some nice F-150 coilover assemblys with 2" lift in the front and they'll fit? (Fox #985-02-015)

There seem to be people experimenting with F-150 front suspension upgrades, RCI skid plates for the F-150 and fuel tank skid plates that come with some fleet vehicles. Does anybody have recommendations on how to improve my Expys offroad capabilities? One thing I'd definitely do will be putting KO2s or similar offroad tires on to prevent flats. Before I'll do that though, the suspension upgrade question will have to be sorted out, though. My truck has 61k miles on it, would it make sense to preemtively replace the shocks anyway at this point?

Thanks!

There are no lift kits available as you have found. Just strut spacers which I am not a fan of. So far a member is successfully running the Bilstein front shock from an F150 and reusing all the rest of the strut assembly from the Expedition.

The lengths were all identical.
The strut top mount it also the same to the F150. So I do not see why the Fox or anyone’s for that matter F150 front adjustable coil over would not fit.
Ride comfort is the big question.

Then followed up with what are you going to do with the rears????
You’ll want to stiffen those up a bit.

I also think restricted upper control arm movement is an issue that needs to be addressed and aftermarket control arms for better travel and articulation.

The Ford parts chart shows our upper control arms are shared with some F150s just not sure which.
There are tons of aftermarket upper arms out there for F150s so just need to determine which one fits.

Not sure if you saw these threads or not

As for prematurely replacing the shocks, you may not be. I have 52k and my rear drivers is already leaking.

Yeah god forbid if you ask a question on here that’s been asked before, even if it’s 7 years old right @LokiWolf ...

So I reached out to a bunch of suspension companies, I mostly got "sorry we don't have anything for that model" as a response. Luckily, ICON gave me a pretty nice response:

Jupp,
There are some components in the development phase and information regarding this platform will be available in the months to come.

I think I'll still go with the ReadyLift short term and then start saving :)

Hope you have deep pockets for those icons. Not a fan of them, since all they r doin is taking the f150 icons and piecing them together to say oh yeah these fit the expedition. Nobody buys these anymore to lift so I doubt we will ever see a true lift kit over 4” for these

For the front, I agree with you, but there seem to be no alternatives for the rear. Having a fullly tuned front+rear set sounds like a good thing. No idea about the price, though.

It is a VERY current thread, MANY of these same questions have been answered and MANY pictures of those who have. I was trying to be helpful, and add A LOT of data. Size tires that work with Electric running boards and those that don’t and more info like that. You can recreate the wheel or go do a little reading from those that already have. Your choice!

Good info about ICON. Had their 4-Link and a lot of other stuff on my 250. Great quality. You get what you pay for in my opinion!
