Figured it would be a good day to replace my U-joints.....NOT! Lol every single retaining clip has broken off so far and I keep having to pick and hammer them out.....why me? It’s all very rusty as it’s been in New York it’s whole life. Ok rant over back to work.

It’s so crappy I’m pondering heading to the dealer and just buying a new driveshaft.

The dealer? You gonna let a couple of U joints win? Get back to work!

Just hit the pick and pull, I'm with gixer, you don't need to spend that kind of $ on a drive shaft. Get ahold of an air chisel, pop in a round punch and have at it. Spray the hell with kroil oil first.

Kroil will make everything all better!

Fyi sockets work great for removing the U joint bearing caps. 1 the same diameter as the cap and the other just big enough to catch it coming out the other end. And of course a big hammer to drive them through

I’ve pretty much given up on my driveshaft, sprayed the hell out of it with penetrating oil, wailed away with the big sledge and nothing comes loose, far too rusty. Calling the dealer in a bit to order a new one. Already tried the socket trick it’s just a lost cause, on the plus everything will be new now. Pretty sure I dented the shaft as the vice let go of the end and let it settle while I hammered on it. It settled on the solid supported part but I can still see some warpage. No reason to put it back in now. Should have known better than to try this on a 11 year old vehicle with 160k on the clock.

That stinks that you dented it because my next suggestion was a ball joint press. When the hammer doesn't work the ball joint press and a little kroil always does. But on the bright side it should be an easy swap from here

Hope you find that driveshaft.

Sometimes they come right out, other times they fight. I too use that ball joint press, but I've broken the ears on some that just wouldn't budge. I've often managed to get one out then brought the stuff to a drive line shop to have them do rest.

Had a '92 Suburban that lop-lop-loped around from the bent ear I gave it. A relief when I sold that thing.

I’m going to have to call the dealer Fords website sucks, they claim the rear driveshaft is $210. Lol it’s got to be at least $500 MSRP for an oem shaft. Maybe by shaft assembly they mean U-joints and yolk.

Looks right to me. "Part can be found as illustration 1". So it would be all parts within the box

Well crap I would have bought it straight away then. Why mess with the U-joints when I can spend 2 bills and have a new shaft??

Wish you were local because I can get it for half. Buddy of mine works at the dealer I took the screen shot from and he hooks it up.

They should have it for me tomorrow along with my vacuum check valve assy I ordered last week. I was able to get one U-joint in on the yoke side and it would not seat right for anything. Everything was rusted so solid nothing came out right. Not worth the frustration. NY salt did too much damage. Do I feel mildly stupid and defeated by what’s a simple job? Absolutely, certainly no mechanic. But in this case I’ll take the L.

You win some, you lose some. Just move forward and get it done when the shaft comes in.

I know all about the salt. Massachusetts isn't very far from NY and we see the same winter conditions and road treatment. I'm sure my U joints look the same way and thanks to your headache I know I'll be ordering the entire shaft right from the start.

Don’t know what I thought I heard last night but I thought they said there was one local, driveshaft will be here Friday from Ford not today. Just the vacuum check valve in today. Put the old driveshaft back in temporarily but the one U-joint wasn’t sitting right and pretty hard to move, the other still original. Once the new one comes in Friday out with the old in with the new. Not vibrating too bad with this one but can’t wait to toss it.
