She was driving home from Raleigh from a horse show towing a two horse trailer with a dressing room. The deer came from the median and hit it dead center. I have to say the Expy took it like a champ. Lost the grill, condenser, trans cooler and radiator but my wife, daughter and pony are fine.

I'm glad your wife and horses are okay. Never hit a deer myself. Clipped one when one jumped over the hood of my old Maxima. Minor dent on the fender from a hoof. Saw a minivan 100 yards ahead of me hit one. Messy as the deer was almost torn in two by the passenger side A-pillar. Luckily everyone in the vehicle was okay.

View media item 6643Glad your wife and child are okay. It's especially good since your pony came out of the crash. As far as the truck vs. deer, I feel your pain. Crossed paths with what I estimate was a yearling doing only 45mph. Much of the damage you listed was exactly the same on mine. All told it came to just over $5000. far less than your priceless wife and daughter!!!

Yep. I like the Expy even more now. Could not imagine the damage/injury if they were in any thing smaller. I’ve been impressed with the Expys, had a 97 with the 5.4 that more than earned its retirement. Got the 2013 with the 5.4 and it’s been great. I’m starting to believe the 5.4 is one of Ford’s best engine and the Expy is their most comfortable and safe vehicle. It does everything we ask and doesn’t complain one bit.

Glad all is ok. I came so close about 25 years back. I was riding my new Yamaha VMAX home in Late January. We had a real nice day and was coming back to Daly City through Woodside area on Highway 35. I was running at a good clip of about 60 mph, when in my high beam I saw her, a full sized female deer. Too late to slow quick enough, I swerved to the left, she went right, thank goodness. The other way around wouldn't have been nice for either of us.

Damn that deer didn't wanna go out without a fight! All & all glad your family wasnt hurt (cant say the same for Rudolf) but still damn he did some damage! The good thing I must say is he didn't jump last second and go through the windshield!

I hit a HUGE doe at 70 mph. She was the size of a small elk. NOT KIDDING. The split-second timing was amazing. A microsecond one way and I would've missed her altogether, a microsecond the other way and we would've hit her full front and may have been killed in the crash.

She made it across the oncoming lanes (where I never saw her) and jumped a tall center barrier on the freeway. I was in the inside lane doing the speed limit. Her head hit my left front headlight, then her body swung around and slammed into the driver's door. We made it through with only minor injuries but, of course, the deer was dead on impact. I couldn't open my driver's door and had to climb out the other side. It could've been SO much worse!

Get yourself a 2005-2006 expedition... that thought will quickly change!

I missed those years. Had a 97 I drove until she would go any more then got the 2013. I just got a 98 for $900 to play with. The 98 has a strong engine and transmission and looks nice until you peek underneath. Looks like it had a hard life in the rust belt up north.

Is there something about these trucks that attracts em???

There's a seriously unnatural deer collision rate on this forum.

Maybe y'all better invest in that deer whistle thingie (does that thing actually work?)

Naw, I've been looking into grill guards since my last foray. 'Bout settled on a "Ranch Hand".
