The signal mirrors on the expy don’t make sense to me and I don’t like the design. If they were like the Super Duty or Explorer and had the amber light facing forward it’d make more sense.

It’s kind of like the GM ones with the arrow in the glass. Very little functional value compared to the other designs out there, mostly cosmetic.

It's so the guy in your blindspot can see your intent to imminently sideswipe him

I have a 17 XLT expedition that was either a fleet or rental. It's been good. I knew what was in it when i bought it. No complaints but do find this amusing:

Today at a stop light waiting to turn left. There are 2 econo cars in front of me. A mazda 3 and a 4 door scion both have turn signal indicators in their side view mirrors. My bus doesn't. Did Ford simply cheap out? Why do I have a sunroof but only one auto down button out of 4? Is it really that much more expensive to make all 4 (on the driver's door) be auto? Why auto headlights but manual AC. Why did my last job provided Nissan NV200 econo (1/3 the size of an expedition) van have a larger reverse screen and 2 auto down and up window buttons? At least the Expy has the same tiny mirror within the side view mirror as the NV200 that is a substitute for blind spot monitoring. A recent low end model Prius rental had all 4 window buttons auto and auto climate control? Thank goodness it didn't have a side mirror turn signal led LOL.

I know Ford just wants to push buyers into higher trim models but having less features than $20k cars? Even though Ford make $10 - $15K in profit on each one and this one had a MSRP greater than $50K.

As I get older my mind tends to wander.
my 16 has turn signal yellow lights in the mirrors, must a higher model build. mine is a kr

I don't need the mirror LEDs. I always signal & look over my shoulder BEFORE switching a lane. It's a survival skill on a motorcycle and just a good habit as I've prevented many an accident by looking 1st. This '17 Expedition has excellent sight lines, not sure of the new model.

I do think the leds in the mirror and blind spot monitoring is making driver's less skilled. Most don't even look over their shoulder anymore. What if both have failed? The driver thinks everything is "ok" and switches lanes without looking.

The sight lines in the new model aren’t nearly as good and there are more blind spots. Less glass space.

I also just had a rental 19’ Yukon XL on my recent trip. Tiny mirrors and awful blind spots, much less safe than an expy despite the blind spot warning. You couldn’t see and that blind spot went off at random times. They sacrificed function for appearance.

I think there is two things being discussed here. Blind spot indicators and turn signal blinkers on the mirror. I have the turn signal not the blind spot indicator.

Elementary:
Lack of options on Expeditions sells Navigators

....now if only someone could explain wtf Navigators have 4 fewer cupholders (none in the door pockets)???? THAT there is a true mystery.

PS sometimes, simplicity DOES have advantages though... Expedition SSV glass is plain and sturdy, Navigator "soundscreen" glass is premium-quiet but chips and sandblasts like a **** (almost as bad as stock BMW windscreens)

Back off from the vehicle in front and guess what? Less sandblasting of the windshield and front of the hood.....
