Is it possible to disable the seatbelt airbags in the 2nd and 3rd rows? I am using those rows for infant seats that are not compatible with airbag seatbelts. Currently using LATCH but will need to switch to seatbelt soon as weight is getting closer to the LATCH limit. Thanks in advance.

I'm not aware of the inflatable seatbelts being available in the 4th Gen Expeditions. Are you sure your vehicle has them? I know they are available as an option on the Crew Cab F150's, but I have never seen any reference in literature or the owner's manual to them being available on the Expedition.

Starting in '19 they were available on the Ltd and standard on the Platinum. I'm glad I got the '18 because my kids' seats do NOT work with those big, bulky inflatable seatbelts and that would have been a deal-killer.

Very interesting. I'll have to take a look at the '19 owner's manual and read up on them.

I have them in our 18 Platinum. They were listed on the window sticker and the buckle is different. Can't remember if there is a label on the belt itself.

I think you're correct...they were not standard on the platinum until 2019, but they were optional. Because I ordered mine I just didn't tick that box. I learned they were a no-go for me when I had a loaner from the dealer which included them and was not able to install my kids' seats.

I don't have them in my 18' Platinum and was told they were added late in the production run. I do have them in my 18' F150. I currently have 2 forward-facing car seats and one rear-facing car seat installed in my truck. The seats are Diono RXTs and they are compatible with the seat belts. To secure the car seats you have to fully extend the belt and then they will ratchet down tight to hold the seat in place. It is much harder to get seats installed firmly in new Fords.

I have britax seats, both of which have lockout clips to keep the seats from sliding along the belt. They work like a champ, but you have to clip a hard plastic piece over the belt...and that just ain't gonna happen over the bulky airbag portion.

Did I miss where someone stated these were cutting edge or even surprised by their existence? No one is saying they are new from Ford

Hi there. I’m a certified child passenger safety technician (aka car seat tech).

What is the make and model of car seats that you have and how much do the kids weigh?

There is no way to disable the inflatable seat belts but there are a number of seats that are approved for use with the inflatable belts as well as seats that have a very high LATCH lower anchor weight capacity (some as high as 55 lb child weight).

Awesome! I'll ask about mine is here as well since we are on the topic!
My seats are Britax Click Tight like in this link My kids are 6 yrs old and 4 yrs old and both weigh right around 40 lbs. I have inflatable belts in my wifes 2013 Ford Flex, will these seats be ok with the inflatable belts? Thanks! :)

(Yup...those are the same ones I have. Good luck getting the green/blue clips under the back cushion to lock off over the big, bulky inflatable seatbelt)

Deadman, are your Britax seats those EXACT ones, the Grow With You Plus, or do they just look similar but have a different name like the Britax Frontier or Britax Pinnacle?

The Grow With You and Grow With You Plus just came out in the last few weeks. If you’ve had your seats for more than a month, double check the exact model. If yours is the Britax Frontier or Pinnacle, those are both approved for use with the Ford inflatable belts and very easy to install with them. They yield a very solid install. I’ve personally installed the Frontier ClickTight in an Explorer with the inflatable belts many times.

Double check your exact model for both seats and report back. If it is the Grow With You, those are not approved for use with the inflatable belts, but the Frontier, Pinnacle, and Pioneer all are and I can get you the inflatable belt install instructions for those.

aggiegrad05, if your seats have the blue clips, those are different model Britax seats. Depending on the exact model, yours may or may not be approved with the inflatable belts. The ones that are approved for use with the inflatable belts will by-pass the blue lock-off clips (leave the clips closed and route the belt over them).

Excellent to know, thank you. I believe we have Pinnacles and they have blue clips. We like the clips as they prevent the seat from sliding around as they tend to do, even with a tight belt.

Luckily I don't have the inflatable belts, but they often come on loaners I get from the dealer. I will double check whether they are approved with the blow-up belts. THANK YOU!!

Britax Inflatable Seat Belt Policy
Can I use an inflatable seat belt to install my Britax car seat?

Not all models of BRITAX car seats are approved for use with inflatable seat belts. At this time, ONLY the Ford Motor Company (Ford and Lincoln vehicles) Inflatable seat belt system is approved for use with the following BRITAX models: B-SAFE, Britax G Series Convertibles (Roundabout, Marathon, Boulevard, Advocate), Pioneer 70, Pioneer, Frontier, Frontier 85, Frontier 90, Frontier CLICKTIGHT, Pinnacle 90, Pinnacle CLICKTIGHT, Parkway SG and Parkway SGL.

If your car seat model is not listed above, it is NOT approved for use with the Ford inflatable seat belt system or any other inflatable seat belt system.

Installation instructions for approved BRITAX seats can be found here: https://us.britax.com/media/13017344/20180125-inflatable-belt-faq-002.pdf

The Pinnacle does not have the blue clips, so yours must be a different model. The seats with blue clips are the G-series convertibles (Marathon, Boulevard, Advocate) which are approved for use with the inflatable belts as well as the newer seats Allegiance and Emblem, which are not approved for use with them. The name of the exact model you have will be on the black handle at the top of the headwings that you squeeze to raise the headwings/harness height.

You’re right...my wife has the pinnacles in her car. Boulevard rings a bell.

You can probably guess who did the car seat shopping in our household.
