new owner of 2017 expy el platinum- the horn goes off intermittently

if I get out of the Expedition and lock the doors when I walk around outside with the key in my hand nothing happens but if I drop the key into my pocket the horn will sound the whole time I am in range of the Expy I might not have some setting correct or something IDK but it drives me crazy. Once I take the fob inside my house and hang it on the key ring holder it doesnt honk any more. I took everything out of my pockets just to make sure nothing was touching the fob and it still does it but I can take it out of my pocket and it quits. please help I just bought it yesterday

Uh, a new battery would be the first step in my mind, I think.

You also might want to go back where you bought it and have them look at it since you have 3 days to rescind the deal IF you signed a sales contract.

How did you determine anyone can rescind a signed contract within 3 days?

Are you hitting the red emergency horn button by accident? I have had 2 vehicles that I would hit that by accident often.

No buttons are being touched at all. I swear its haunted lol. This is a few more things it is doing. I was told that if you have the fob the door should unlock when you are walking up to it, mine doesnt I have to either push one of the number buttons on the car to get it to open or push unlock on the fob. I dont know what it is suppose to do because the salesman I bought it from was not a ford dealer so I guess I need to go to the ford dealer and ask or read the book. My last esp was a 2010 king ranch and I know they have made a lot of changes since then. Hell I didnt even know my 2010 had climate seats in the back seat until I was getting ready to sell it and found the buttons. I had never got in the back seat lol. So any help will be great

I know someone asked about the battery, but did you you check the fob’s battery? This sounds like the intelligent key, maybe someone set up a weird setting with it? Check out the manual, for sure.

BTW, I don't think the Expedition will auto-unlock when approaching with the fob. In fact, that feature doesn't make a lot of sense. How would the vehicle know you are approaching, walking away, walking around etc?

Bob has posted the MD law (which is an echo of US consumer law) and which specifically excludes vehicle sales unless some door-to-door guy was selling them out of the back of a large truck.

Not to fret as practically everyone believes in the non-existent 3-day rule.

My 15 Plat does that of I leave it in ACC mode by double tapping the ign button when killing it.

Correct. But I believe the OP is referring to the feature many vehicles have where if you grab the door handle with the fob close by, the door will unlock.

The 2017s do not have a touch sensor in the handle. There IS a proximity sensor, so if you have the fob on you and press any key on the door keypad, the door will unlock.



Does this happen with both fobs or just one? Could just need a new coin cell battery. If it’s happening with both fobs, that would point more toward the truck as a cause instead of the fob.

Not taking issue with anyone and we all make mistakes but yes, my son is barred in 4 states...and something in Canada(?).....I'm telling you what he told me, nothing more or less. Look at real life and in the real world....he goes to court often for lemon law cases and according to him, the BIG car company will give in to a lemon law case faster then the others but all roll in court....because it isn't worth it to fight them. He knows because he represents the car companies, NOT the plaintiffs. He said the contract recincions don't even make it to court because it's not worth the fight when there's been no appreciable beneficial use.

On a personal level, I made the mistake of putting cash up for a girlfriends used car at a used car lot in '07....she liked it but they had to fix the ball joints. They said they did but hadn't....no, they REALLY hadn't even touched them. I suppose my lack of interest in whatever she was buying suggested to them that I knew nothing about cars. Anyway, now we have the exact situation, right?

I called & told the owner that she didn't want the car & I wanted my cash back , he of course said no and got very angry, I typically mock people when they twist but he was seriously twisted and I didn't want him to stroke out on the phone. Hell, then I'd never get my money back<LOL>......I returned the car about the same time my son called him, maybe a half hour later so he had time to think clearly. He gave me my cash back as I got out of the car. He was level by then and he said it wasn't going to be worth fighting an unhappy customer....that's a real-world experience.....in MD....but again, not taking issue with anyone....if the law says he didn't have to give it back, he could have gone to court to defend himself. I wonder why he chose not to?

In your example, the issues were 1) breach of contract (assuming a "we owe you" existed), and 2) the dealer agreed to give you your money back for reasons other than law, and not because 'I don't want it anymore'.

I don't know of any state that requires a "cooling off" period but, certainly, no state prevents all parties to a contract from reaching an agreement to cancel that contract.

Lemon laws have nothing to do with "I don't want it anymore". I would also assume that if a person takes a company to court under a lemon law tort, they have already won their case and are just looking to have it formalized with a court order. Lemon laws are very specific, and short, i.e.; "if x and y are true, plaintiff wins".
