Has anyone noticed a subtle hollow sounding transmission clunk when the Expy shifts into and out of 3rd gear? Also some times can be heard on the 6th to 7th gear shift or shifting from Drive to Reverse.

Sounds like u joints failing. May wanna have that checked. 2018-2019 f150s have recalls on sudden abrupt downshifts and this is usually how it starts. Clunking during gear changes. Some guys have even lost the drive shaft on the highway. Not good

It was initially making a loud clunk so I brought it into the dealership to have it checked out. Dealership wrote it is "caused by a slip/stick condition at the transmission output shaft flange/anti-ting ring interface." They lubed and checked torque on parts and then returned the Expedition back to me with much less clunking noise. It still however has a subtle clunking sound as described above. Does this sound like the U joints?

Mine does it, gears 3-4-3 somewhere around 15 mph - 20 mph. Happens 80% of the time when I'm nearing my house and coming around a curve on a slight incline. Have a service appointment set for that and a few other things in the near future.

That sounds very similar to what I have. I took it into the dealer and they lubricated and tightened a portion of the driveshaft and it helped somewhat but the sound is not completely gone. Could you update us when you have the dealer take a look at yours?

Do you notice anything on your 5th to 6th or 6th to 7th shift on cold mornings?

Did the issue resolve itself the more miles you put on your cars? I may be hearing the same in my new 2019.

No, unfortunately the dealership stated that the transmission clunk was "normal" and that nothing needed to be done. Would love to hear if anyone had anything done that fixed the clunk.

Mine make a slightly harsh shift into 3rd gear but I drove another expidition and it did the same thing. I'll call 5 star tuning and ask them. I don't trust the dealer

My '18 does exactly what you are describing, both scenarios. It's almost like there is a band that is snapping into place as the gears catch.

I had an issue with my 18 expedition not shifting correctly into all the gears with 8000 miles on it. Once it would get to 9th and going into 10 it would slam into gear. Sometimes it would bounce from 8 to 6 then up to 10. Eventually it got worse and would slam into 2nd gear and up. I could be driving in a parking lot and pulling into parking space and it would clunk into gear. I called local dealership and they basically gave me the 'yea I'm sure its nothing routine'..finally after calling enough times they sent me out to drive with their head transmission guy. Took 2 mins of driving with him for him to say ok take me back to the dealership something is very wrong. Took them 3 weeks to finally replace the transmission all while putting me in a ford escape loaner(nothing like going from one of the biggest vehicles ford sells to one of the smallest ). Needless to say I wasn't happy. Even after having that "fixed" I'm starting to have issues again in the mid range of gears. This is my first and will be my last Ford.

Below is a link that captures the transmission bouncing around gears an you can kind of hear it slam into 5th at the end of the video.

I didn't realize until after I bought my 2018 with 21k on the clock, that a snap ring had let go around 13k, which required a rebuild as well. It messes up the fluid pressure...I believe..
