Anyone have a radar detector and/or jammer - how is it mounted?

Currently, I have an old school Escort 9500ix hardwired and mount at the top of the windshield, wondering if it's worth it for the new 360c Max with the arrows and a blend mount bracket to mount it on the rearview mirror

I use Waze all the time since I am in sales and drive a lot

Good question. I still run the 9500i and I’m too cheap to pony up for a new model if the one I have gets the job done. I will say that the mount mine uses is garbage but it works.

I'd say you are pretty well protected and the upgrade isn't really worth it...
It really depends on what the police in your area are using. If they have lazer/lidar it would be worth the upgrade if you sprung for the jammers... but then you are in the $800+ install range. Using waze, a rabbit with any radar detector and that is about as good as you are going to get against radar. Having had a V1 for 20+ years the arrows are nice, and when used to them you do feel naked without them, but its not earth shattering. I have yet to see a single cop near me use anything other than KA so I feel pretty confident with the 9500 and Waze.

I’ve mine ping ‘Laser’ from time to time but it’s rare. I feel better about keeping my old, but reliable, escort.

Have a max 360 (not the one with the wifi), using a blend mount and a mirror tap. The detector comes with a few years of the escort live subscription which was decent... not great, but after the 3 years (mine just ran out) it's like $50 per year for it + the defender database updates (which I'm often too lazy to do).

Not specific to the Expy, my Max360 does have a weird variance in reported speed of about 1.5mph from my actual speed. I figure I just need to send it in to get recalibrated, but I'm lazy.

Bottom line, is the Live App is only as good as the number of people utilizing it, if you live in an area that doesn't have a lot of people with the app on then it's not going to provide much advanced warning - and then placing it into a subscription model just ensures fewer people will utilize it.

The app also configures your device, but it's a little confusing, and doesn't do a very good job of explaining things, and sometimes, the settings would reset and I'd have to go back through them.

I just got it a couple of days ago the Escort 360c Max, used the Live app previously with my 9500ix and wasn’t impressed. Seems like not a lot of people use it since Waze is free and more people are on it.

Still debating if it’s worth the $650, it seems cheaply built and it’s not from Canada, but made in the Philippines. it still uses an old school Mini b cable that they don’t even include if you wanted to update database and firmware instead of WiFi. Also the packaging is not impressive either, the voice is very muffled and the app is glitchy as my saved settings revert back to default. Very annoying.

Good point(s), I forgot my speaker is blown on it too. still works, but obviously but the audio, in particular the voice prompts, are wonky and scratchy.
Also, it seems to forget I have everything set to low, it still BLARES out randomly when detecting things before it remembers it's supposed to be on low volume and then goes quieter. A few times it's woken the kids/wife up when driving if they were napping.

Made in Philippines! You are kidding me!
I live 30 mins from Escort (use to be Cincinnati Microwave) and though they made everything there. Maybe they just assemble them there.

Lousy company BTW. Products OK as far as cutting edge and detection range but....NOT reliable.
They are arrogant and don't like the truth and neither do their fanboys on THEIR forum.
Yes they have their own forum and they WILL (been there done that) KICK you off and ban you for griping about the GPS errors or "calibration required" errors.

A special breed of kool-aid drinkers there.

As my other post says....reliable and Escort radar detector should not be used in the same paragraph at least not since the 8500 was invented...Heck even the 7500 was basically the same thing.
The old metal escorts with needle....(I'm that old) and first Passports were bulletproof...probably literally with full metal case.

The 8500 and above suffer from way to often calibration required messages adn the 360 was plagued with GPS errors early on.
Don't know if they fixed the prob or not but I would not bet on it.
They do not stand behind their product BUT WILL gladly sell you an extended warranty..WHICH actually is THE BEST value of ANYTHING they sell because you WILL need a trip back to factory at least once maybe more.

I had two 8500s one maybe both X2 models.
Both had issues.
Tried a 360 and GPS error in just a few weeks.
I sold them all and gave up on them.
I NEVER hear of V1 problems but I have never owned one.

The best countermeasure I have EVER used was a CB radio.
Hand's down the best for mainstream highways which is what I usually travel on.
Waze is almost as good and google (owns waze) shows speed traps too IF you have a route in progress.

Returning my Escort Max 360c, not worth the $698 w tax, the app sucks and it’s glitchy and it doesn’t save any settings. Plus the voice alerts sounds like she’s has a pillow in its mouth. False alerts on laser on a country road etc... the arrows are nice, maybe I will try out the Uniden R7?

Also I think they only have 10 people that pay for Live service, wave is much more reliable and free.

going back to my old school 9500ix

I have heard good things about the uniden... I'd say that or the trusty V1...
I wish they would’ve updated the V1 like 10-20 years ago, all those add on modules seem stupid. From what I’ve read is that his wife controls the company and answers the phone too.

V1 suction cupped to the windshield near the mirror. I like the blend mount but felt it blocks some of the view through the windshield. I also feel mounting the detector as high as possible increases earlier warnings.

Smart move. They are simply overpriced and the companies are just arrogant. If the detector was no more than $249 it would be worth having one just to use for fun or when you wanted to. But what they're asking for them is ridiculous.
The internet is good and there is also a Whistler that has received good reviews. I picked one up a couple of years ago and have been very happy with it even though I rarely bother to use a detector anymore. It performed every bit as good as the escort Max I had and it didn't have GPS errors and poor quality control. I can't remember the model off the top of my head I will have to go check.
It is also one of the cheaper ones that actually gets good reviews. We all know that most cheap protectors are just junk.

I called once about 15 years ago and he answered the phone himself.
