Has anyone had to replace your battery yet? Does it need a special battery only offered at the Ford dealership or will a Costco battery fit? How difficult is it to replace the battery? Thanks!

Costco will have a replacement battery. It may or may not be in stock. The only thing special about it, is it’s an AGM battery. Have you fully charged your factory battery with an AGM battery charger? A normal charger can’t charge a depleted AGM.

I have the NOCO genius 10, older 3500 and 3 of the 1’s. They are the best bang for the buck IMO. I also have the Optima 1200 charger. It’s amazing, but a little more money and way bigger.

Isn't your battery (+ vehicle) still under warranty?
Are you sure it's getting charged in the vehicle

I’ve got several heat and cool cycles on my factory battery. I’m also constantly on the road and have 67k miles on my 2018. Never had a battery problem.

I have a Schumacher Charger it works just dandy on AGMs.

Schumacher SC1281 6/12V Fully Automatic Battery Charger and 30/100A Engine Starter with Advanced Diagnostic Testing https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BLLRM8R/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_dBbEEbVJF81XZ

X2 Power are some of the best AGM batteries out there with a solid warranty.

They are a starting and cycling battery so even if you fully discharge the battery you will have no issues charging it again fully.

I have a 2016 and it looks like our batteries are slightly different. But the link is for the 2019.
Seems the 4th gens are only available in 820 CCAs.

The 15-17s are 930 CCAs

I bought one of these last year for my boat and moved it to the secondary battery. I played the radio in my boat for about 2 hours running dual amps, and radio before starting and, and turned right over without flipping the battery switch. Pricey.. but worth it!

Are the 15-17 batteries AGM? Just a little battery trivia, the X2 Power batteries where an identical clone of an Odyssey. Odyssey’s parent company EnerSyn just bought Northstar out. Not sure they will keep the X2 Power name or not.

15-17s don’t come with AGMs from the factory.

Hi-

I just purchased an Optima 1200.
I have a Ford Exp 2019 and the battery is a BAGM 94RH7 800.

When selecting the battery type, do you select the
1. 12V High Performance AGM (engine starting) type or
2. 12v standard flooded/AGM for autos

The high performance ones appear to be for the Optima brand batteries but I was not sure how the standard Ford AGM battery would be classified.

Curious to know what people have used.

Thx.
Bruce

The 1200 is an outstanding charger. It pays for itself every year keeping my old Optima’s running. Yes, the first setting has a special charge curve for the Optima brand battery’s with the dark grey battery case and red or blue top. The fuel gauge is dead on when using with an Optima. But it’s only rated to a max of 100ah. The Standard battery AGM setting can go up to 130ah. So if you have a larger AGM in your boat,RV and Bigger trucks you use this setting. I use this setting for the Expy. Pretty sure it’s not a performance battery.

Thx for the response. I just got off the phone with my local Ford dealership parts manager and he said that given the Expy supports Auto Stop Start, he believes that the AGM battery in the Expy would be considered a performance battery.

I had started charging as a standard but after the call restarted the charging and selected the Performance option.

Any idea what happens if there is a mismatch? Overcharging can occur?

Thx.

It will still work and nothing should happen. Most “Performance” batteries have their own charging curve optimized for their batteries. That way they can sell you a charger. The 1200 works so well on Optima batteries I have revived many thought to be done for good.

How are you running down the battery? It’s only two years old so is this what we can expect? Do you love in the desert?

I think most of us that have had the low battery problem stem from lack of use and short trips. There is simply not enough time for the vehicle to recharge the system after dozens of stop and starts. Going to the store, picking up kids and running errands. Many with the ASS disabled have not had the same problem. Now add the CV-19 restrictions it is even less time driving. Meanwhile the WiFi, cell service, system update, vehicle health reports, proximity sensors and security systems are all still doing their thing.

Revive old Thread:

When the battery in my 2018 Expy dies, can I just go to Costco and slap in a replacement or does it require a dealer to install due to some type of Battery Management Controller?
