Recently purchased a 2015 Expedition EL Max and noticed a sawing noise when driving coming from the drivers side and happens once in while and not regularly - anybody else experience this sound and know what it is or what needs to be replaced?
I'll have a look at the fluid levels to see if everything is full. Sounds like a pump or actuator making a sawing noise which gradually fades.

Thanks

Lol...

When it happens I'm driving and by the time I get out the sound is gone. It lasts approx. 3-4secs

Also see if you can determine under what circumstances it happens; for example, accelerating, braking, steady speed, turning, straight line, etc.

Does it have power running boards? My 2010 sometimes when I'm driving the boards just do their own thing and start to come down then head back up

A little late to the game, but my '16 Expedition just came back from the dealership where they completely rebuilt the front differential - the pinion gear was failing. I'm going to post about my experience but I took it in originally bc of an intermittent humming sound (2-6 seconds) coming from the front, usually when making slow (5-20mph) turns. I could feel it in the gas pedal and in the steering wheel. Sounded like I was going over a cattle guard at speed. They used a listening device and pinpointed the front differential. Your description is a little different but thought I'd throw my experience in.

First - are there any other symptoms you can feel except the sound, when it happens? I understand it happens only when you're driving? I would inspect that plastic wheel arch on the driver side, it might be loose and sometimes rubbing against the wheel.

Try driving windows down no ac along a wall. The sound should be clearer bouncing off the wall.

I just discovered a weehee weehee sound on mine. Seems like when body rocks back and forth I get that squeaky sound.

Curious how many miles were on the rig?
