Wipers stopped working. Not the multi function switch... Ideas??

Hi all, I picked up my 2015 Expy EL SSV last Friday. Practically rebuilt the whole truck over the last few days lol...

Anyway got a weird thing that happened. Here's the events

Both front/rear wipers (and spray nozzles) working normally last Friday and Saturday.
Saturday/Sunday we started doing some work on the vehicle; the only thing I think could have set this off is I used some high pressure air to cleanout a bunch of dust etc around the underhood fuse panel etc as some dust had built up within the housing. It's just compressed air, not sure if that could have caused anything? Also, connected/disconnected the battery a few times for a few other jobs we were doing on the vehicle.

Anyway...

Drove it around on Monday, but didn't use the wipers... Fast forward to Tuesday, I got caught in a snowstorm, needed the wipers, and bingo - no workie!

Front AND rear wipers, and the wiper washers both don't work. Signals still work. Power pedals still work.

I ordered a brand new multi function switch - standard protocol on these fords. It didn't do a thing; I installed the new one and same issue. Signals still work, only the wipers don't work. Waste of money. Anyone need one? lol... Checked fuses - nothing seems out of the ordinary, no blown fuses. Could it be a relay? Thoughts? I'm at a loss...

You have wiring diagrams ? ... To trace the wires and see if any wires got knocked loose or cut (maybe rodents).

Also, like you said, it could be a bad relay. There’s a number of tests you could run. I’ll see if I can dig up the service manual and I’ll attach diagrams and wipers circuit troubleshooting

I vote a fuse. One's loose or missing from being blown out and there's too many "extra" (empty) slots to see. Look close.
Just my opinion.
Good luck to you and hope you find the solution quickly.

Since it is both front and back trace the schematic above and check all common points first. Notice their are seperate wiper motor relays, front and back, so you can eliminate those. Just eliminate all separate circuits and troubleshoot the commons.

Hey Tex,
Where did you get the diagrams? I have a 2017 XLT(bought new) and I'm trying to gather as much service info as possible before I have problems.

Alldatadiy.com but they only go up to 2015 on the Ford models

Ok, quick update - it appears to be an issue with relay #50 (I believe) - I removed it and the wipers started working, but the washers wouldn't work. I put it back in and nothing worked. Then I jiggled it a bit and everything worked as per factory...

So... I got a new relay. Put it in. Nothing worked again. Jiggled it a bit more, Then they started working normally again. So I pulled it out, and blew some compressed air into that region to hopefully clean it out as best as possible, and over the other fuses, then tried again. For the 1st 5-10 seconds they didn't work, then they started working, and over the past 2 days I have had no problems, they work as normal, including the washer.

I think it's a connection issue below the actual relay - I have a feeling some crud or dust got in, enough to disrupt the signal from time to time. I'll keep an eye on it, but for now I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I doubt anyone else will deal with this, but you never know - so I'm posting about it. Cheers!

You might want to pull out that fuse box where the relay plugs into and check for corroded crimps and connectors. And check for corrosion under any grounds. Of course that can make matters much worse, but may be better to deal with it now than one night in two years when it's ten degrees out.
