Brake Light on Dash

Mines on all the time. Anybody know what all that means. I would rather not spend money at a shop and havent found a good expedition repair manual yet. And no, the emergency brake is not on!

Brake light

I have a 2000 expedition 2x4 and a couple of months ago the brake light came on (there are actually two brake lights on the expedition, one for the emergency brake is engaged and one for the antilock brakeing system). Ours happened to be the abs light , so we took ours to a brake shop and were told it was because our brake fluid was extremely low and we needed new rear brake pads . So we replaced them and our rear rotors just in case. After that the light never returned . I hope this helps .

Heres what we paid

If this happens to be the problem , when we had ours fixed we got the answers from the mechanic but took it to a buddy of mine to have all the work done . We bought the parts at a local store for about $180 , compared to the screwball job for $800 when we took ours to a shop when we had the same problem but with the front breaks a year ago . If you do decide to go to a mechanic be careful , with my freind it took him a day to do it a . With the mechanic it took 2 weeks and numerous calls telling me my brake pads , rotors and calipers were bad . (calipers ,i was told by my friend most likely did NOT need changeing ) Good luck

Thanks man, its actually the parking brake light that is coming on in mine. So kind of wierd. I am gonna change out the front pads as they are getting a little worn.

This happened on an old escort I used to drive. Basically there is a "switch" the trips when you put the e-brake on. This "switch" is stuck on. Doesn't mean anything just annoying.

So I replaced my front pads and the light turned off. So eveidentally it does more than just indicate parking brake on. Thanks for your help though guys.

It senses the fluid level in the reservior also. By replacing the pads the fluid went back up.

These things can be flakey. The one in my SC would come on under acceleration. The reservoir was near full but I topped it off anyway and that fixed it.

On the Bronco II both lights came on once and I extinguished them by poking the float in the master cylinder with a pencil.

The ABS light should have nothing to do with the condition of the brake pads. When that comes on you can code the ABS module so it tells you what's wrong. Sorry I cant be more specific here I dont have the Expy manuals yet.

I have the same problem on my 98' and the dealer can't seem to fix it. The brake fluid is not low, nor is the parking brake engaged. It seems to flicker on and off at random. Has anyone else run into this problem, and is there a solution for it?
