Start battery finally gave out, what’s the preferred replacement?

I just replaced mine with the same Motorcraft battery a OEM. Bought it from Rock Auto https://www.rockauto.com/en/parts/motorcraft,BAGM94RH7800,battery,2476 and it arrived two days later. First time using that website but I am very pleased so far.

It assure easy to change, all of my settings and clock stayed input - the only thing that I had to change was for some reason my running boards went from "auto" to "off."

What did you do with the old battery? Did Rockauto give you $$$ for the core?

I ended up just having the dealer replace it. The had the vehicle for 10 days for the oil change, front passenger seat moving by itself, a terrible squeak in the front seat, and some weird skipping issues with the transfer case. I just don’t have the will to work on this thing so replacing the battery myself just didn’t sound appealing…I may unload it soon if these small issues don’t go away.

Transfer case issue was not resolved. So far the seats seem to be fine.

You are correct. From the Interstate site:

I have used a lot of diff AGM batteries and really am not seeing much difference in life between them all. I have not used a northstar in a long time, very hard to get. Optima, Deka, everstart from walmart, house brand at o'reilys, etc. I just am not seeing a difference in the life between them all. The Ford battery seems just as good as the rest and I wouldn't hesitate to go that route. 4 years doesn't seem bad for how much it is used. If you really cared, I bet you could get another year or two if you put the battery on an AGM specific battery charger once a month. I tested this on one battery and I felt like it really did make a difference. I am not dedicated to do this all the time on all my batteries but I do try to charge them maybe once a quarter.

I don't know the details on the ford charging system but typically car's charging systems are not setup for AGM batteries so they never get a full charge.

I religiously turn off the ASS so I’m not as hard on the battery as the manufacturer would assume and I have used a charger in the past. I may throw it on the charger if I know I won’t be driving it for a day or so once every few months… not a bad thought.

I've seen a huge benefit in my boat for the electronics and recovery ability with AGMs, but this is the first one I've had to replace in a car due to age. Given the running boards, proximity sensors, alarm sensors, etc. that are always energized, I am surprised this one lasted as long as it did, especially since my wife only drives it 10 miles to work.

One thing I noted is that the battery tray looks like it could take a larger model. In hindsight, I probably should have looked into that a little more...

Johnson Controls makes Motorcraft's batteries. 4 years for a 4th gen high load / high cycle AGM battery is damn good. The only other AGM battery I'd consider is Deka from Philadelphia. East Penn Battery Company technically. They have their own label (direct ship) but make the Duracell car batteries sold at Sam's Clubs. eastpennmanufacturing.com

Another bad battery after 15 months. Would barely crank one time yesterday so trickle charged it overnight. Autozone's tester showed 79% charged and said "Bad Battery". Going in tomorrow for a free one.

Costco has a flooded Group 94R, however no AGM.

agm battery for sure...top dogs are nortshtar...xs power and a few more...i put a northstart gp 65 agm in and havent been happier especially being in car audio...i think northstar is #1 but the others are just as good

still get the northstar G65 agm battery...i left my truck sitting for 5 months with my 30K watt rms system in the truck...battery was 2yrs old...one jump and 20 min drive home later still running that battery today without fail...what other batter can sit for 5 months in our trucks with all my equipment? i still had enough juice to roll down the windows and play music until i got it jumped...5 months no start and nothing disconnected

The Interstate Batteries MTX-49/H8 would be my go to, Costco's version of the Interstate is just as good. Both are made by Clarios, the company that bought out Johnson Controls a few years ago. As far as the two mentioned above from O'Reilly Auto Parts, just on price alone, those look to be flooded batteries, and if your vehicle came with AGM, you are better off to pay the difference and stay with Absorbed Glass Mat.

I replaced ours with the Autozone Duralast Platinum. Came with 3 year warranty so if it ***** the bed I'll just take it back there. We do lots and lots of short hops to school and back so I'm sure that didn't help it, plus we're in Colorado so the weather doesn't help, either.

My first Motorcraft battery went 6 years. My second Motorcraft battery went 5 1/2 years. I’m on my 3rd Motorcraft one now. They’ve been around $200 to $250 installed. I figure if the OEM lasts that long, why gamble? I’m using the same theory on the brakes. I’m finally getting pads & disks all the way around this Saturday. The original set only has 138k on them. The estimate at the ford quick lane is $900.

Well, Weider has been making fitness products since 1936, been sued (and lost) for false advertising on a grand scale numerous times and has been making absolute garbage equipment since at least the 80s - but they're still here 86 years later. A longstanding business is the result of management and marketing, not an indication of a quality product. As for the batteries, it seems like a crapshoot these days. I'm satisfied to get 3 years and if I get more, great.

Costco, currently in both our vehicles and I've used then in 4 others over the years without a failure. The price is tough to beat and 3yr replacement warranty is solid.
