I upgraded 2 rear speakers to Polk audio from my expedition XLT for expedition Timberline with B&O system.

The sound is much better than original speaker.

Thinking of doing this to my fronts with components. Will attach the tweeter to the sail A pillar. The B&O sound is disappointing IMO.

It takes some work with the EQ but it can be improved. The mid tones are muddy unless you crank it up and need to adjust the bass depending on music genre.

That’s too bad. I was hoping the Timberline B&O would be good. I actually had a dream the other night that I got mine and the stereo sounded bad and distorted worse as I turned it up. I was so disappointed! Lol

What size are the speakers and are they are perfect fit?

Still new sync4 on timberline, so I can’t adjust the bass o my timberline. On 2021 Expedition XLT, I did that on sync 3. Thanks

The size for front speaker: 6”x9”

And rear speaker (2 row): 6 1/2”

I didn’t upgrade 3rd row speakers and tweeters.

I used speaker mounting brackets and wiring harness. Everything I bought from Crutchfield.

The Timberline doesn't have the upgraded b&o, just the regular. I actually wouldn't be surprised if it had been deposited a bit. I saw on a dataset it's only pushing 600ish watts now.

If you take option 501 package include B&O system (12speakers) and 15” screen. My Timberline is 501 package (Canadian dolar) with B&O system and 15.5” touch screen

The difference in the size of magnets is impressive. What was the aprox cost for upgrade?

The smaller magnets on the factory speakers are neodymium. They have an advantage in that they are much lighter (a big deal) and don't loose any acoustic efficiency.

Ok, didn’t know there was a difference. Makes sense. Thank you

I replaced mine with JL Audio speakers. Does anybody else think it's bat-**** crazy we buy a $50-60K (XLT 202A) full size SUV (essentially the perfect environment for sound) and the sound system is worse than an 11 y/o base model Honda CR-V? Between that and the pathetic headlights....woooof.

Yes.. Ford electronics suck at best. Not just the radio.. Then they make a screwed up head unit that does not have a replacement. I spent a FORTUNE to replace speakers and add a processor and amps... Friggin crystal clear.. and can be way too loud.. but my sons cars stock has way better bass. If the head unit I purchased 16 months ago ever comes in, I hope the bass will improve. AND.. AND.. Everytime I restart the car, I have to put the drive mode back into eco. AND! Had I not purchased the auto stop unit, have to turn off the auto stop stupid thing. I am WAY sure the damage done by restarting the car 6.. 10 times going through the drive through cost way more than any fuel savings. Crap, my motorcycle remembers what direction i turned last when I re start.

I don't think the 501A Timberline B&O system is bad actually (the 12 speaker one) - for a factory unit. No audible distortion or rattling that I've heard so-far, crisp highs. Obviously not audiophile grade, but definitely better than any factory stereo in a non-luxury vehicle I've heard.

So I have the B&O 22speaker system in my SPP, I don’t think it sounds great at all. It sounds like most of the sound is coming from the front speakers. I have tried playing with the fade from front to back to try and get a more immersed feeling but it doesn’t really do any good. Just sounds quieter in front. Cannot seem to get an overall stereo sound from all around. I’m pretty disappointed. I had much better sound in my 2020 explorer that I just traded in. Anyone else experience this?

I had a similar feeling with mine. I felt like I was sitting in front of the left speaker of a stereo system. Which, I am. However, in most other vehicles you get equal sound from all speakers and it doesn’t sound super directional.

I fixed this by turning on the surround sound feature. It made the sound much more full and presented a better soundstage.
