I am getting just about 14 MPG combo of city and highway. Has been like that since I got it new, about 90,000 miles on it now. Is that MPG normal and if not, what can I do to increase it...other than not drive it.

I have the same motor and year. I am getting 16.9 mpg average, all I have is the k&n filter replacement. I also drive with a light foot since I use it when my kids are in the car. On the freeway I get 23 mpg with cruise at 70 - 75 mph

You can try some fuel injector cleaner through it, and when is the last time you changed the fuel filter?

EDIT: Check your tire pressure

i'm between 20-22 with K&N intake (not just filter), flowmaster exhuast, and Superchips Vortex 1950 programmer on Gas Saver setting...other also have on top of my modifications...electric fans, better thermostats (doing this in the summer)

I also have an 06 Expy. For the last month I have topped my tank off right to the neck. I drive about 90 miles a week to work and back. 1/2 of the round trip is highway. I am babying the gas petal as much as possible and even coast down hills. I watch the MPG on dash and it will range between 14.5 and 15.2. At the end of the week I hit the gas station and top it off up to the neck and record my mileage. I am averaging 13.9 mpg. We did have snow a few times and turned on the AWD. I did the same on 1 highway trip and got right at 18 mpg. I have 46,000 miles. Thats still better than an old ramcharger I had. it got 10MPG driving off a cliff.

Just wondering

Do you guys get your mpg from the computer or do you calculate it by usage?
The computer uses vacuum pressure to display mpg and it makes me wonder
how close to reality it is.

That sounds a bit low, I'm sure improvements in mileage have been made since I bought my 2000 5.4 4wd, I get 15.5 city/hwy on avg., and 18hwy avg. if I watch my speed.

WOW! I can never get over 14 mpg and some of you guys are in the twenties!
When I first got my expedition I was averaging in the 9-10 mpg range, but after the gotts mod, K&N, and flowmaster it bumped me to 11-12 mpg average. Its probably so low because I'm a teenager... but even when I use the family suburban I'm nowhere close to as low as I am now. I would buy a programmer, but I have no idea how to use one so I don't want to mess anything up.

Um the window sticker says 13 city 17 highway.
State inspection coming up in March so maybe then I'll get some info.
I hope nothing majors wrong with it...I bought an Expedition to replace my last truck because I wanted somthing reliable but still big enough to fit my friends with a modest amount of snob appeal.
About that gas cap though, I always tighten it alot but it never clicks. I figure its in there good enough, but if there is something wrong with it wouldnt the check engine light come on or something?

the stock cap allows fumes to escape. slowly. but enough to mess with the vacuum of the tank. it locking cap will help with mileage a little bit. and a tune is very easy to do. you cant screw anything up. if you dont like the way an edge is how you can change almost anything then get something easy like a hypertech. answer a few questions and it does the work for you.

Gracias amigo! Where can I find a locking gas cap? So Edge is for people who know what they're doing and HyperTech is dumbed down? I'll remember that and look at a some Hypertech gizmos.

not sure...but there was a guy on here sometime towards the end of last year and he claimed that he changed his gas cap and increased his mpg's...said gas was evaporating or fumes escaping...something to that nature...search gas cap

Ya I'll have to do that. I remeber when I barely screwed the cap on in my last truck. Fastest tank of gas I've ever gone through.

Hmm and with gas saver you say your getting between 20 and 22 mpg? Obviously I'm not out to save the world and help the enviornment by using less gas but a little more mpg would be nice. With the performance tunes arent you supposed to be careful with those? My friend told me that if I do performance tunes it could mess my transmission up from the added stress.

you can always reset your computer.

unhook the +positive+ cable for 20 to 30 minutes. to verify it cleared check your clock.

drive it like miss daisy for a couple of hundred miles.

just a thought and it costs so little.

Reset my computer if I decide I dont like the tune? Because right now its stock. (In regards to the computer). As far as driving like Miss Daisy, I do that alot. Not by choice of course. I live in Yorktown, and all the townies(locals) here drive like a snail. I think its something in the water.
