Could anyone confirm what is Ford's approved process to change the vacuum pump?

A shop told me that Ford specifies that the passenger valve cover must be removed to get access to the pump. I've seen several videos of changing the pump without removing the valve cover.

Just want to validate what the mechanic is telling me is actually true.

The Ford dealer where I had my 2015 Expedition Limited 4x4 serviced replaced the vacuum pump on my engine under terms of my Ford Premium ESP. The service advisor told me that the mechanic had to remove the valve cover to gain access to the pump.

The pump is on the right rear of the engine, under the cowl. Just looking at the location and pump will show how difficult a location to work on it is.

I do not know if the Ford service system dictates removal of the valve cover.

I had the dealership finally change it out for $450 labor. I supplied the part.

Local independent mechanic had quoted me $1400, which he said included replacing the passenger side valve cover.

Not sure why the dealership was cheaper if removing the valve cover is the specified Ford procedure. Although they didn't mention even a new valve cover gasket on the invoice. Strange.
